Grounds Maintenance Apprentice
(Hatfield Town Council) Location:

Doncaster DN7 6QE

Level 2

Course Duration:

24 months approx

Weekly Hours:

37 hours per week. Mon - Thurs 8am - 4pm Fri 8am -3.30pm

We are a small town council with 5 staff, 3 site team staff maintain the cemetery, parks and recreation grounds. We are seeking an Apprentice Cemetery & Site Assistant.

  • Grass cutting (including ride-on, pedestrian powered and hand- held machines)
  • Pruning, digging and preparation of ground
  • Planting and maintenance of shrub and flower beds
  • Hedge cutting
  • Edging
  • Watering
Cemetery specific duties:
  • To assist with interments at Hatfield Cemetery including the digging of graves and preparing for funerals.
  • To assist members of the public with day to day general enquiries
General Duties:
  • Sweeping and litter picking, including collection of dog waste
  • Emptying of Cemetery bins, and other site bins and dog bins
  • to assist as necessary in the installation, dismantling and maintenance of sports and other equipment
  • to keep tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition
Desired Skills & Qualities
  • Good communication skills - dealing with the public face to face
  • Good team member
  • Physically fit
  • Good aptitude & work ethic
  • Excellent time keeping/reliability
  • GCSE's, or equivalentsin maths and English are desired but not essential
  • Driving license would be an advantage
Future Prospects
  • Can lead to full time Grounds Maintenance role
Training:
  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
  • Depending on which apprenticeship pathway your employer chooses to offer within horticulture. You may also need to achieve all or a combination of the following courses before taking your end point assessment: Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance, Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides and Abrasive Wheel.
