Grounds Maintenance Apprentice

Course Duration:24 months approx

Weekly Hours:37 hours per week. Mon - Thurs 8am - 4pm Fri 8am -3.30pm
We are a small town council with 5 staff, 3 site team staff maintain the cemetery, parks and recreation grounds. We are seeking an Apprentice Cemetery & Site Assistant.
- Grass cutting (including ride-on, pedestrian powered and hand- held machines)
- Pruning, digging and preparation of ground
- Planting and maintenance of shrub and flower beds
- Hedge cutting
- Edging
- Watering
- To assist with interments at Hatfield Cemetery including the digging of graves and preparing for funerals.
- To assist members of the public with day to day general enquiries
- Sweeping and litter picking, including collection of dog waste
- Emptying of Cemetery bins, and other site bins and dog bins
- to assist as necessary in the installation, dismantling and maintenance of sports and other equipment
- to keep tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition
- Good communication skills - dealing with the public face to face
- Good team member
- Physically fit
- Good aptitude & work ethic
- Excellent time keeping/reliability
- GCSE's, or equivalentsin maths and English are desired but not essential
- Driving license would be an advantage
- Can lead to full time Grounds Maintenance role
- Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
- The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
- The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
- The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
- Depending on which apprenticeship pathway your employer chooses to offer within horticulture. You may also need to achieve all or a combination of the following courses before taking your end point assessment: Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance, Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides and Abrasive Wheel.
