About the School

A friendly and inclusive mainstream primary school near Newbury is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Graduate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support for a pupil with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and high sensory needs. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will help the pupil access learning, develop communication skills and feel confident within the classroom.

The Role

As a Graduate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil during afternoon lessons.
  • Support a child with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and high sensory needs.
  • Use sensory strategies to help the pupil regulate, engage and participate in learning.
  • Encourage communication, confidence, independence and positive social interaction.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised support strategies.
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil and celebrate their progress.
Person Specification
  • A graduate in Psychology, Education, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Health & Social Care, or a related subject (desirable).
  • Passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
  • Patient, calm and nurturing.
  • Keen to build experience within SEN and child development.
  • Previous experience working with children is desirable but not essential.
