Location: Hybrid working with multi-site working across both Hospice sites, Selly Park and Erdington
Hours: 15 hours per week / annualised hours will be considered
Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 (pro rata) per annum dependant on experience
DBS Requirement: Basic Check

Birmingham Hospice is entering an exciting period of growth and transformation - and we are looking for an experienced and forward thinking Governance Lead / Company Secretary to take a key senior role within our Hospice. This position is central to ensuring we maintain the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability, enabling us to deliver outstanding care to our community.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the Chair of The Board, you will act as a trusted adviser, guiding the organisation through complex governance, regulatory and compliance requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is motivated by purpose, enjoys influencing at senior level, and thrives on ensuring strong organisational oversight.

What You'll Do
  • Lead corporate and charity governance.
  • Provide company secretarial support to the Board and committees, including meetings, agendas, minutes and governance records.
  • Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission, Companies House, CQC and other regulators.
  • Maintain and improve governance frameworks, policies and the scheme of delegation.
  • Oversee organisational risk management and key risk registers.
  • Contribute governance content for the annual report and audit.
  • Advise senior leaders and support cross organisational projects.
  • Promote continuous improvement, accountability and strong governance.
  • Champion responsible use of digital tools, including AI, to enhance governance and information management.
  • Ensure robust policy, reward and compliance foundations.
About You
  • Strong knowledge of UK charity law, governance requirements and best practice.
  • Outstanding written communication and organisational skills, including the ability to produce accurate minutes and governance documentation and manage a diverse workload.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office, with an open and innovative approach to digital tools and emerging technologies (including AI).
  • High levels of discretion, integrity and confidentiality.
  • A good standard of general education, including English and Maths along with a relevant governance, legal or secretarial qualification or equivalent experience in governance, charity administration or company secretarial work
