Position Summary

We have a great opportunity for a Global Strategic Sourcing Manager to join our Procurement team. This role can be carried out remotely within the UK.

The individual will have responsibility for External Suppliers' operational performance, ensuring the flow of materials and finished goods into Manufacturing Operations, which is a key element of LifeScan's Supply Chain.

The role is responsible for supplier performance including continuous improvement, escalations and the sourcing/purchasing of materials based on Manufacturing build requirements. They will be responsible for representing the operational requirements of Manufacturing Operations with suppliers and acting as liaison between the suppler and Lifescan. As such, they will be a key member of the External Operations team and report into the appropriate team within Supply Chain.

The role will also include elements of Strategic procurement as a key member within Lifescan Supply Chain organisation. The role includes leading and supporting activities related to: new supplier selection, contract set-up, negotiation, and supplier risk management, bringing an operational expertise and perspective to support this activity.

Suppliers' relationships are often complex in nature and require extensive interaction with key stakeholders, supplier's leadership, and other segment/functional leadership. Internal partners include Production, Planning, Material Scheduling, Procurement, Engineering, finance, and Quality.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Accountability to meet operational objectives; Lead operational improvements and optimize supplier performance in the delivery of products and services through our External manufacturing sites
  • Developing deep supplier relationships with critical suppliers to include data review and analysis, performance management and development and improvement of end-to-end process and value
  • Evaluating sourcing procedures and presenting improvement strategies to senior management.
  • Acting as escalation point and lead for operational issues with suppliers
  • Interfacing directly with Supply Chain stakeholders across functions to assure alignment to LifeScan's objectives, including quality, reliability, innovation, and cost
  • Performing regular analysis on cost optimization identification and strategy, leading improvement projects with supplier base to deliver annual cost improvements and drive competitive advantage
  • Estimating risks and applying risk minimizing techniques, as well as negotiating contracts that comply with industry regulations
  • Delivering on financial, service, reliability, quality, innovation, and growth commitments
  • Providing support to Lifescan's Supply Chain, based on deep subject matter expertise and understanding of Manufacturing Operations
Key Experience Requirements

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly technical and motivated individual who is looking for a role which combines technical expertise with the opportunity to lead, coach and mentor others. You will be degree qualified, preferably in Engineering/Business/Science.

You will have a proven track record in major change roles, both as the architect and also in leading implementation. Medical device industry experience is strongly preferred.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • A broad-based understanding of business operations and practices and core Manufacturing areas of focus (Cost of Goods, Reliability Management, Quality Management, and Supplier Management required), in particular high volume electronics assembly
  • A high level of proficiency with core operational skills (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Project Management, Quality systems, EHS, Process Excellence, etc.)
  • Global and cross functional experience preferred including across geographies of varied sizes and industries
  • A proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing roles
  • A demonstrable understanding and use of regulatory, quality and compliance requirements in a medical device manufacturing environment; Experience in FDA compliance environment
  • Strong leadership, project management, communication, influencing, collaboration, and stakeholder relationship building skills
  • Strong verbal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to a wide range of audiences
  • Strong organisational and change management experience
  • An ability to show judgement in developing new approaches and resolving issues
  • An ability to balance an ever-changing workload, prioritising requests and proposing effective cost maximisation alternatives
