Job Description
Offshore Geotechnical Engineer (Office based role)

Initial 12 Month Contract

Kingston upon Thames, Surrey - 3 days per week in office, 2 days per week from home

A Geotechnical Engineer is required to work on an initial 12 month contract basis on a hybrid working set up based in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey that will be outside IR35.

As Offshore Geotechnical Engineer you will be responsible for planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations to support the design and installation of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, oil & gas platforms, subsea pipelines, and seabed installations. The role involves interpretation, data analysis, and foundation design/installation recommendations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

Responsibilities
  • As the Geotechnical Engineer, you will plan Offshore site investigations by defining scopes of work and selecting appropriate sampling/testing methods (e.g., CPT, boreholes).
  • Analyse soil data to interpret lab results and derive geotechnical parameters like shear strength and stiffness.
  • Prepare Technical Reports, compile Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
  • As the Geotechnical Engineer, you will support foundation design by providing input for piles, suction caissons and shallow foundations.
  • Perform Pile Analysis, calculate axial/lateral capacities and assess installation feasibility.
  • Assist Engineering Phases, contribute to FEED and detailed design stages with geotechnical expertise.
  • As the Geotechnical Engineer, you will ensure standards compliance following ISO, API, DNV codes and client specifications.
  • Manage Geotechnical Risks, participate in HAZID/HAZOP and review third-party deliverables.
  • Uphold Safety & Quality, align with companies HSEQ policies and maintain personal and team safety.
  • As the Geotechnical Engineer, you will coordinate & Collaborate with engineering teams and report findings to stakeholders.
What are we looking for?
  • Experience: 5-10 years in offshore geotechnical roles with pile & foundations design and installation activities
  • Education: Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering or similar
Technical skills
  • shallow foundations, pile installation, CPT interpretation, soil-structure interaction and geotechnical data interpretation.
  • Finite Element Analysis software (PLAXIS or ABAQUS)
