We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Fosse Way, a category C prison located in Glen Parva, Leicestershire.
HMP Fosse Way is a state of the art resettlement prison designed to prioritise the rehabilitation of residents. It provides skills and qualifications to the men, enabling them to secure meaningful employment on release with the aim of reducing reoffending rates.
HoursMonday & Friday - 08:00 - 16:30
This is a part time role, working 16 hours per week.
SalaryAnnual salary up to £129,500 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Main DutiesOur General Practitioners are extremely valued and well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients, and further develop your knowledge in areas you may not normally experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.
- Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients, and make timely decisions regarding future management.
- Be a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team on site, and actively participate in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.
As a GP you will:
- Respond to medical problems presented by patients, including diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate inline with guidelines and pathways.
- Prescribe for patients, regularly review medications and monitor repeat prescriptions.
- Provide medical leadership and expert advice regarding medical and primary care issues to the wider healthcare team.
- Deliver effective patient care, developing high levels of communication with patients and utilising evidence based best practice through benchmarking and clinical guidelines.
- Undertake appropriate clinical audit to improve clinical outcomes.
- Inspire and develop positive collaborative working relationships across the multidisciplinary team.
- Promote multidisciplinary discussions around complex case management, ensuring systems and processes are in place for managing results, letters and tasks.
- Share and disseminate acquired knowledge with all team members through development sessions and clinical governance meetings or case reviews.
- MBChB or MBBS
- Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
- Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
- Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
- RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
