Job Description

Northumberland House Surgery in Kidderminster is looking for an enthusiastic GP to join our friendly, happy, hardworking practice on a salaried basis. This role arises because of a current GP relocating.

You could be joining our very experienced clinical team working 4-8 sessions a week.

You will be extremely well supported by both administrative staff and your clinical colleagues, including three excellent nurse practitioners who see and treat the majority of same-day patients.

Main duties of the job

The GP will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of enhanced services, including:

  • In-person consultations
  • Telephone consultations
  • Triage calls
  • On-call duties
  • Checking and signing repeat prescriptions

You will be working in a new, purpose-built surgery with excellent facilities and a consistently good CQC rating, within easy commuting distance of Birmingham and Worcester.

We are a forward-thinking, progressive practice with a long history of training medical students, GPs, and nurses. We are heavily involved with our PCN, which comprises four practices and the majority of the ARRS staff.

Due to our supportive culture, we have a very low staff turnover.

Job responsibilities
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organization
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Manage all clinical aspects of patient care in the surgery, including investigations, reviewing results, and making referrals as appropriate
  • Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients, following current practice protocols and NICE guidelines
  • Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Check, interpret, and act upon pathological results
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up of patients
  • Record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes to standards
  • Update the clinical database promptly and accurately, ensuring compliance with QOF and enhanced services requirements
  • Use read codes appropriately
  • Compile and issue computer-generated prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice formulary, NICE guidance, and good prescribing practices
  • Support and collaborate with other primary healthcare team members
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Current UK professional registration (see NHS Careers website)
  • Qualified GP with full GMC registration, on a performers list, and holding a UK driver's license
  • Newly qualified GPs (less than 2 years post-qualification) with no previous substantive post
  • Subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, a DBS check will be required
  • Understanding of primary care policy developments, including GMS contract, clinical governance, Network Contract DES, and QOF
  • Knowledge of the healthcare needs of the practice population
  • Eligibility for minor surgery, CHS, obstetrics, and family planning accreditation
