GDS ServiceAssessment Consultant
Location: UK-based (Remote/Hybrid)
Contract Type: Contract, 8-16 weeks
Time Commitment: 2-3 days per week (flexible, depending on assessmentproximity)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced GDSService Assessment Consultant to prepare and support our multidisciplinary teamin successfully navigating an upcoming GDS Service Assessment. The serviceinvolves an API-centric platform within a regulated environment, requiringclear, structured preparation aligned with the Government Service Standard.
You will lead the assessmentreadiness process, help the team prepare the necessary evidence and artefacts,coach presenters for the assessment session, and guide post-assessment actionsto ensure service progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a structured readiness review againstthe GDS Service Standard, identifying gaps and actions needed forassessment success.
- Create and manage a clear action plan foraddressing identified gaps ahead of the assessment date.
- Support the preparation of evidence packs andartefacts, including:
- User research summaries and personas
- Service journey maps and end-to-end process flows
- Accessibility testing evidence
- Technical architecture diagrams and securityconsiderations
- Performance measurement frameworks
- Prepare and refine the service assessmentpresentation slide deck.
- Facilitate dry-run rehearsals, providingclear feedback to improve clarity and confidence of presenters.
- Advise on structuring clear, user-centred, andoutcome-focused narratives aligned with GDS expectations.
- Support the team on the assessment day, managingflow and capturing panel feedback.
- Guide post-assessment action planning to addressrecommendations and prepare for the next delivery phase.
Essential Skills andExperience
- Proven experience supporting digital servicesthrough successful GDS Alpha, Beta, or Live Service Assessments.
- Strong knowledge of the Government ServiceStandard and GDS assessment process.
- Experience working within API-centric platforms,technical services, or regulated environments.
- Understanding of user-centred design, agiledelivery, and accessibility best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively withmultidisciplinary teams, including delivery managers, product managers,user researchers, service designers, technical architects, and policyteams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability tocoach teams to articulate delivery and evidence clearly duringassessments.
- Experience in coaching public sector teams orsuppliers in preparation for GDS assessments.
- Understanding of GOV.UK service design and contentstandards.
- Familiarity with accessibility and securityconsiderations in public sector digital services.
- Experience using collaborative tools such as Miro,Confluence, and presentation tools for assessment readiness.
- Duration: 8-16 weeks, with the possibility ofextension depending on delivery timelines and assessment scheduling.
- Commitment: 2-3 days per week, with flexibility toscale down after the assessment or extend for post-assessment support.
- Location: Remote/Hybrid, with occasional in-personworkshops if required.
- Start Date: As soon as possible to align withassessment preparation milestones.
