Full-time Staff Nurse - Theatre - UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Dublin
Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Dublin. Job type: 11-month Fixed-term Contract of Employment.
Overview of roleThe Staff Nurse reports to and is accountable to the Director of Nursing and Theatre Manager in all matters relating to the job. The Staff Nurse will be expected to take responsibility for a caseload of patients in which you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. In addition, you are expected to practice within the Code of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by An Bord Altranais and comply with the Policies and Procedures of the Sports Surgery Clinic. You will be held responsible to the Theatre Manager and, in their absence, to the delegated CNM holding shift responsibility for the theatre. At all times you will practice within the limits of your experience. The Theatre Nurse must possess a clear understanding and commitment to the ethos and philosophy of the Sports Surgery Clinic.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all clinical activities and uphold a high standard of nursing care.
- Create and promote healthy working relationships.
- Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the Clinic.
- Ensure that each patient is treated as an individual and that privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- Actively participate in the Clinic's accreditation programme and the ethos of continuous quality improvement.
- Keep CNMs and the Theatre Manager appraised of all issues as required.
- Practice within the Code of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by An Bord Altranais and comply with the Policies and Procedures of the Sports Surgery Clinic.
- Provide direct patient care in selected patient situations and serve as a behavioural model for excellence in practice.
- Maintain the safety and well-being of patients, their relatives, and staff in accordance with SSC policies and procedures.
- Set standards of nursing practice, communicate these standards, and audit and change them as necessary.
- Liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient-focused, high-standard care delivery.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned, checked daily, maintained, and take appropriate action with faulty equipment as per SSC policy.
- Use safe lifting techniques when assisting in the movement and lifting of patients and equipment.
- Anticipate and be aware of the needs of the multidisciplinary team during the operative process.
- Report accidents, incidents, and complaints to the Theatre Manager and/or CNMs (Theatre).
- Communicate effectively at all times and maintain a harmonious working environment.
- Assist in the care, labelling, and dispatch of specimens for laboratory examination.
- Assist in maintaining accurate collection of data in relation to theatre operations for statistical compilation.
- Preserve the dignity and rights of patients at all times during their stay in the operating department, whether anaesthetised or conscious.
- Ensure all clinical and legal documents are completed accurately and are legible in accordance with SSC guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate pharmacy stock levels and adhere to SSC policies and procedures.
- Ensure nursing care is based on the latest research findings and constitutes best practice.
- Ensure safety procedures are carried out for swabs, instruments, needle counts, and hazards such as fire and infection control.
- Demonstrate initiative and be receptive to new ideas and development.
- Be a Registered Nurse and eligible to register with An Bord Altranais on the General Division of the live register.
- Theatre or Anaesthetic Course desirable but not essential.
- Have two years post-registration theatre experience.
- Have managed patient care ensuring the highest professional standards using an evidence-based and care planning approach.
- Be computer literate.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
- Work on own initiative, prioritise and manage multiple issues simultaneously, and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
- Be free from any defect or disease that would render you unsuitable to hold office and be in a health state that allows regular and efficient service.
- Be of good character.

Salary€39,101.00 - €59,074.00 per annum based on a 37.5 hour working week. Incremental Credit will apply to the above salary.
