We are Forestry England - a team of foresters, professionals and experts dedicated to building greener, healthier forests for everyone. We are seeking a Forest Planner for a fixed term appointment at our Central District office in Sherwood, Nottinghamshire (optional second post in Rugeley, Cannock). The role runs for 37 hours per week until 31 August 2026, with the possibility of extension or permanency.
What you'll do- Develop long term forest management plans that set the direction for woodland care over the next 30 years, balancing biodiversity, forest resilience, sustainable timber production and public access.
- Produce UK Forestry Standards (UKFS) compliant Forest Plans and support the maintenance of our UK Wildlife and Forestry Standards (UKWAS) certification.
- Gather evidence, data and professional judgement to inform planning decisions across a varied district covering Liverpool, Hull, Bedfordshire and surrounding areas.
- Conduct GIS analysis and field surveys, consult widely with stakeholders, and provide high quality data, mapping and specialist advice to operational teams.
- Spend approximately a quarter of the time outdoors, working independently and managing your own workload with flexibility.
- Collaborate within a supportive district team and national network of forest planning professionals, accessing tailored training, mentoring and development opportunities.
- Salary: £33,854 per annum (subject to statutory deductions).
