Salary: £42,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm

About the Role

MJ Quinn is seeking an experienced and proactive Plant & Transport Support Manager to join our Fleet team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a knowledgeable transport and plant professional to play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient management of our fleet and plant assets across the UK.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting fleet and plant governance, maintaining compliance with industry regulations, conducting inspections and audits, managing supplier relationships, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers a mix of strategic planning, operational support, and hands on site-based activity.

Key ResponsibilitiesFleet & Plant Compliance

• Ensure fleet and plant assets comply with:
• Operator Licence requirements
• DVSA standards
• LOLER and PUWER regulations
• Manufacturer maintenance schedules
• Company policies and procedures
• Monitor servicing, inspections, statutory examinations, MOTs, and maintenance schedules.
• Carry out compliance audits and site inspections across operational locations.
• Monitor OCRS performance and address compliance concerns.
• Maintain accurate compliance records and audit trails.

Asset Management

• Support the management of fleet and plant assets throughout their lifecycle.
• Monitor utilisation, condition, and replacement schedules.
• Review specifications to ensure assets remain operationally suitable.
• Assist with procurement activities, supplier evaluations, and contract reviews.
• Work with operational teams to identify future fleet and plant requirements.

Plant Inspections

• Conduct formal plant inspections in line with NPORS standards.
• Identify defects, misuse, damage, and compliance issues.
• Produce detailed inspection reports and monitor corrective actions.
• Verify maintenance and repair standards.
• Provide recommendations regarding asset condition and replacement.

Policy Development & Continuous Improvement

• Develop and improve fleet and plant policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with changing legislation and industry best practice.
• Lead projects focused on improving efficiency, utilisation, and compliance.
• Identify and implement cost saving opportunities.
• Support the introduction of new systems and technologies.

Driver & Operator Competence

• Support driver assessment programmes.
• Conduct towing assessments where required.
• Deliver guidance and coaching to drivers, managers, and operational teams.
• Support training initiatives and promote a strong safety culture.

Supplier & Contractor Management

• Manage relationships with maintenance providers, hire companies, and suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance against agreed service levels.
• Audit contractors to ensure compliance and quality standards.
• Challenge repair costs and identify opportunities for savings.

Operational Support

• Support all Fleet Department functions including:
• Compliance
• Transport Operations
• Fleet Administration
• Plant Management
• Assist with accident investigations and improvement projects.
• Provide management support during team absences where required.

Stakeholder Management

• Build strong relationships across Operations, Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, HR, and Senior Leadership teams.
• Act as the subject matter expert for fleet, plant, and transport matters.
• Present performance data, risks, and improvement plans to senior stakeholders.
• Deliver presentations both in person and via Microsoft Teams.

Financial & Commercial Support

• Support the management of fleet and plant budgets.
• Monitor expenditure, utilisation, and maintenance costs.
• Identify efficiencies whilst maintaining high compliance standards.
• Develop business cases and provide financial analysis to support decision making.

What We're Looking ForEssential Qualifications & Experience

• CPC - Road Haulage Transport Manager Qualification.
• NPORS N039 Plant Inspector Qualification.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Ability to travel nationwide and stay away from home when required.
• Proven experience within fleet, transport, or plant management.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience influencing and engaging teams at all levels.
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem solving abilities.
• Confident challenging poor practices and driving improvements.
• Strong presentation skills, including PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
