Posted 1 day 1 hour ago by Simpson Recruitment Services
Our client is an enviromental services company operating nationwide with a fleet of 100+ vehicles to get the job done. With significant growth planned, they need a Fleet Manager to keep every vehicle safe, compliant, cost-effective and ready to roll.
The role
This is a real leadership role with the freedom to shape how we manage our fleet as we grow. You'll own the whole vehicle lifecycle, from planning and acquisition through to replacement and disposal, and lead a team that handles the day-to-day so you can focus on the big picture.
You'll be:
Developing and delivering our fleet strategy in line with business growth
Leading vehicle acquisition, leasing and replacement programmes, negotiating with suppliers and assessing whole-life costs
Owning the fleet budget, tracking cost per vehicle and per mile, and delivering measurable savings
Keeping us compliant, including maintaining and developing our FORS accreditation
Managing motor insurance, incident trends and vehicle risk
Overseeing driver risk and behaviour using telematics and vehicle cameras
Producing clear KPIs and monthly reporting for senior management
Working closely with Operations, Finance, HR and Health & Safety
Leading and developing your team, including the Service Manager and Fleet Performance Officer, who handle routine servicing, MOTs, vehicle checks and driver coaching
What we're looking for
Significant experience managing a commercial vehicle fleet, including mixed leased and owned vehicles
Strong experience of vehicle acquisition, leasing, contract management and replacement cycles
Proven commercial and financial awareness, with experience negotiating with fleet suppliers
A good understanding of fleet compliance and vehicle risk
Experience using data, KPIs, telematics and fleet technology to drive decisions
Experience leading and developing a fleet team
Confidence communicating with drivers, managers, suppliers and senior leaders
Desirable
Experience in field service, utilities, infrastructure or similar environments
FORS experience
Experience supporting significant fleet growth
The kind of person you are
Commercially astute, highly organised and data-driven. You're happy to challenge suppliers and stakeholders, you know how to balance operational needs against cost and compliance, and you delegate day-to-day activity so you can focus on building a fleet function that scales.
