Firmware Engineer FPGA - Remote with 4/5 days per month on-site in Ulverston

As a Firmware or FPGA Engineer, you'll enjoy working in a high-technology business dedicated to providing reliable imaging and acoustic equipment for underwater applications.
Their international customer base uses cutting-edge technology in various subsea applications, including deep-sea infrastructure, renewables, marine life tracking, dive search & recovery, oil & gas, and scientific discovery. Backed by its parent company, they are launching new products, including next-generation sonar systems, to provide underwater solutions worldwide.
You will be based at a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ulverston, Cumbria, near the Lake District National Park, or work remotely with one week per month on-site, fully expensed. This location offers a great environment to develop your career in the growing underwater technology market.
The role:
- The FPGA/ Firmware Engineer will be a key member of a multidisciplinary small design team, specializing in acoustics, imaging, vision, mechanical design, electronic hardware, embedded software, and application software.
- You will develop solutions in VHDL or Verilog for multichannel analogue and digital signal sampling systems operating in real-time.
- Your responsibilities include writing test benches, simulation, synthesis, achieving timing closure, and debugging.
Job responsibilities:
- Inception and definition of new products, working on five new developments.
- Design and development of firmware (VHDL or Verilog) for high-frequency real-time multibeam sonar equipment.
- Advanced test benching and debugging HDL designs.
- Achieving timing closure.
- Development of DSP solutions using Xilinx FPGA's.
Qualifications and experience:
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (preferably Electronics); candidates from other disciplines will be considered.
- At least 3 years of experience in HDL design, with VHDL or Verilog development.
- Knowledge of Xilinx devices (Spartan, Artix, Kintex, Virtex, Ultrascale, Zynq, Ultrascale+) and development platforms (Vivado, Vitis).
- Experience with lab-based test and measurement equipment.
- Experience in software, hardware development, embedded systems.
