Job Title: Design Estimator
About the Role

The Design Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and quotations for Fire and Security systems projects, supporting the business through the full bid and tender process from initial pricing through to securing profitable contracts.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge of fire and security systems with excellent numerical and analytical skills, working closely with account managers and business development teams to support the wider sales process.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and quotations.
  • Complete tender submissions within specified deadlines.
  • Conduct site surveys where required to support design and pricing activities.
  • Calculate labour, materials, subcontractor, commissioning, and maintenance costs.
  • Prepare detailed bills of quantities and equipment schedules.
  • Review project risks and commercial assumptions.
  • Support bid clarification meetings and client presentations.
  • Assist in securing profitable projects through accurate estimating.
  • Review supplier quotations and negotiate pricing where appropriate.
  • Contribute to bid strategy and value engineering exercises.
  • Support account managers and business development teams during the sales process.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience estimating Fire and Security systems within the UK market.
  • Strong understanding of Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control, and Intruder Alarm systems.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Experience producing detailed quotations and cost models.
  • Knowledge of British Standards relevant to Fire and Security systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience using estimating software and CRM systems.
  • Understanding of NSI Gold or SSAIB accredited environments.
  • Experience using Honeywell Gent, Advanced, Apollo, Siemens, Gallagher, Avigilon, Milestone or Comelit PAC.
