Amicus are recruiting for a Commercial Finance Director to lead the finance function of a fast-growing construction business.
As a core member of the Senior Leadership Team and strategic co-pilot to the Managing Director and Group Leadership, the Commercial Finance Director will act as the primary engine for profitable growth and enterprise value creation. Moving far beyond traditional oversight, this is a visible, "boots-on-the-ground" leader-not someone who sits behind a screen-who actively partners with everyone across the business, from site laborers and project managers up to the board. This role embeds high-level financial strategy into daily operations, shaping commercial deals, expanding gross margins, and establishing the financial architecture required to scale revenue aggressively over the next 12-24 months, while building and scaling a high-performing finance team to support that growth.
- High-Impact Business Partnering: Embed directly with project directors and commercial teams to influence contract negotiations, optimize pricing strategies, and drive maximum profitability across every stage of the project lifecycle.
- Cash Engine & Capital Velocity: Lead working capital strategies and treasury optimization to maximize cash conversion, accelerate liquidity, and fuel the capital needed to support aggressive commercial expansion.
- Commercial Governance & Revenue Optimisation: Own contract accounting, WIP management, and revenue recognition (FRS 102 / IFRS 15) while proactively managing variations, claims, and margin leaks to protect bottom-line returns.
- Strategic Forecasting & Growth Modelling: Deliver dynamic scenario planning and financial models that guide executive decision-making, evaluate new market opportunities, and de-risk major commercial investments.
- Operational Transformation: Harness Microsoft Business Central to turn raw financial data into real-time, actionable commercial intelligence that empowers operational leaders and builds a agile, scalable finance function.
The successful candidate will be a CIMA, ACCA, or ACA qualified accountant with 8+ years of post-qualification experience, ideally gained within SMEs or project-based environments, with construction experience being highly advantageous. You will possess strong technical capabilities in project accounting, working capital management, and financial modeling, combined with hands-on experience using Business Central or an equivalent ERP system.
Crucially, you must bring a proven track record of operating at both strategic and operational levels-demonstrating the commercial acumen to partner with senior leadership, unlock value, and either drive business turnarounds or scale operations rapidly.
