About the Role:

The Financial Crime Specialist will play an integral role in GRS's Financial Crime risk management, including (but not limited to) Sanctions, Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud, Bribery and Corruption (collectively, Financial Crime). The individual will work within GRS's Compliance function and will report to the GRS UK & EMEA Head of Financial Crime and support the Financial Crime Analysts and members of the Compliance team on Financial Crime related matters.

Role of Compliance Function:

Vision: To help people to make effective risk based, disciplined decisions doing the right thing

Establishing an open and constructive relationship with LSM's regulators (and supervisory bodies). Co-ordinating and managing this relationship including, but not limited to, the Prudential Regulation Authority, the Financial Conduct Authority and Lloyd's.

Providing advice to the LSM governing bodies on compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and providing advice to the business, for example in the form of policies and procedures or written updates, in relation to applicable laws and regulations.

Assessing the possible impact of any regulatory development on the operations of the business and working with the business with regard to compliance.

The identification and assessment of compliance risk, and the development and oversight of an appropriate framework to ensure the management of compliance risk.

Such a framework will include assessing the adequacy of the measures adopted by the business to prevent non-compliance including monitoring to ensure adherence to procedures.

Ensuring that GRS's Compliance Strategy is in line with its broader strategic objectives. Working with the business to assess new opportunities and ensuring appropriate control frameworks are established.

A key part of GRS's Compliance Strategy will be to oversee GRS's Conduct Risk framework and associated policies and procedure in conjunction with management and the business.

Working closely with Liberty Mutual Group Compliance & Ethics to ensure that the GRS compliance framework is consistent with the framework in place for the Liberty Mutual Group.

Reporting to the LSM governing bodies in relation to the management of compliance risk including the provision of all relevant management information to allow key decision making to be undertaken.

Key Responsibilities:

Working as a member of the LSM Compliance Function in undertaking its responsibilities outlined above.

The Financial Crime Specialist will be expected to represent the LSM Compliance Function at certain LSM governing body meetings, reporting on financial crime-related issues and participating in executive management matters.

The Financial Crime Specialist will contribute actively towards the implementation, delivery, monitoring and enhancement of an effective financial crime compliance monitoring programme (included within the Compliance Plan) across LSM businesses and locations. This will include:

participating in day-to-day support and monitoring activity such as ensuring all regulatory deadlines, insofar they are relevant to financial crime, are met and all business activity is conducted consistently in line with LSM Compliance policies.

assisting in the oversight of:

compliance processes to ensure appropriate, timely and strategic advice is provided to the business in an effective and efficient manner.

due diligence for a variety of new business opportunities and to verify a range of controls across existing operations; and

supporting the Head of Compliance in:

managing the regulatory relationship, insofar as it pertains to financial rime, with LSM's key regulators

their role as LSM Money Laundering Reporting Officer and LSM Whistleblowing contact.

conducting strategic reviews of internal frameworks relevant to financial crime controls; and

assisting with the effective management of the relationship with Liberty Mutual Group Compliance & Ethics department.

supporting Risk and Compliance transformation in:

building and implementing new technological solutions to enhance financial crime controls

support Compliance Business Partner in building new and maintaining positive relationships with the business

participating in the delivery of an effective and appropriately tailored LSM Compliance financial crime training programme both business-facing and to members of the Compliance team.

undertaking sanctions screening, detailed and strategic assessments of the application of relevant trade control measures to specific coverages and other financial crime functions and acting as a second-line review for junior team members undertaking the same.

conducting independent horizon scanning to identify material developments in the sanctions, trade control and wider financial compliance space. Delivering targeted communications and training on the same and adapting internal procedures accordingly.

Skills and Experience:

Relevant professional qualifications and strong academic record. A legal background is strongly preferred, together with a demonstrable experience in a compliance function.

Strong experience of the scope and application of EU, UK, US and UN sanctions measures and wider trade controls, including licences and authorisations. Expertise in navigating the legislative frameworks under which such controls are implemented and enforced.

Awareness of the applicable regulators' requirements and the enforcement environment.

Excellent understanding of the general insurance and reinsurance industry and ideally the position of the London market.

First class people skills and a team player with excellent written and verbal communication.

Proven experience and track record of solving problems and delivering solutions to the business in a way that balances regulatory obligations with a strong commercial understanding.

Natural organisation, project management skills and a champion of change.

Able to challenge and be challenged.

Able to grasp complex issues quickly and be able to offer relevant and focused advice.

Ability to listen, be flexible, but decisive.

Pragmatic and principled, not dogmatic.
