Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on, commercially-minded Finance Manager to oversee day-to-day financial operations and play a key role in delivering timely, accurate financial reporting and insights to the leadership team. This is a critical position within a growing, fast-paced service organisation, offering the opportunity to drive improvements, support strategic decisions, and lead a small finance team through change and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the daily finance function, ensuring robust controls and timely, accurate reporting.

  • Lead the monthly close process, including the preparation of management accounts and reporting packs for the leadership team.

  • Act as a strategic business partner, working closely with budget holders to deliver insightful financial analysis, identify spending trends, and support data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.

  • Support year-end reporting processes, including the preparation of statutory accounts and coordination with external auditors.

  • Manage and monitor cash flow to ensure financial stability and visibility.

  • Oversee the accurate preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.

  • Drive continuous improvement and automation of financial processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capability.

  • Identify and implement best practices to streamline operations and improve financial performance.

  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and support to the wider finance team and senior leadership.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a small team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CA(SA) with relevant post-qualification experience in a commercial finance role.

  • Proven experience in both management and financial accounting within a service-based or SME environment.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members.

  • Background in high-growth or change-driven organisations, with a passion for improving processes and systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability, with a pragmatic approach to finding solutions in ambiguous or unstructured scenarios.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance precision with pragmatism.

  • Skilled in translating complex financial data into meaningful business insights.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally and building trusted relationships with non-finance stakeholders.

  • Curious, driven, and self-motivated - able to work independently and take initiative where appropriate.
