Finance Director

Role: Finance Director - Public sector

Location: Cardiff/Hybrid

Contract Length: 6 months

Day Rate: £925 - £950 (inside)

Provide strategic leadership of all financial, commercial, and economic activities, ensuring strong financial governance, value-for-money decisions, and supporting organisational objectives during major transformation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Finance, Commercial, and Economics functions in compliance with regulations and public sector standards.
• Advise CEO and Executive Team on strategic financial matters, spending reviews, and fees.
• Oversee departmental budgets, efficiency targets, and adherence to Managing Public Money.
• Drive improvements in financial operations, systems, and service delivery.
• Promote value-for-money and evidence-based investment decisions.
• Enhance procurement strategies and commercial acumen.

Experience:

• Senior financial leadership in complex (ideally public sector) organisations.
• Proven delivery of value-for-money and effective financial management.
• Leading teams through change and influencing at board level.
• Building diverse stakeholder relationships and shaping strategic direction.

Knowledge:

• Expert in financial control, reporting, and Managing Public Money.
• Strong understanding of procurement, commercial strategy, and economics in a public sector setting.
• Familiarity with high-value/high-risk procurement and emerging markets.

Qualifications:

• Fully qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA, or equivalent) with ongoing professional development.
