Location: Woodthorpe, York

Hours: 4 hours per week initially, with the potential for hours to increase

Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour, paid through Direct Payments

Contract: Permanent, with flexibility required

Driving licence and own vehicle essential

About the Role

I am a creative and ambitious woman looking for a kind, patient and dependable female Muslim Personal Assistant to support me to live independently and pursue my personal, academic and creative goals.

I experience severe obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), particularly contamination fears and ritual behaviours, alongside agoraphobia, anxiety and periods of significant distress. My Islamic faith and religious practices are an important part of my life, so I am looking for someone who can work sensitively and respectfully around both my faith and my individual support needs.

The role will begin at 4 hours per week but is expected to develop as I move into my own home and become increasingly independent.

The Role Will Include

  • Supporting me to keep my home clean, tidy and organised
  • Assisting with deliveries, post and everyday practical tasks
  • Supporting shopping and other essential activities outside the home
  • Accompanying me to appointments, workshops, events, leisure activities and trips
  • Providing calm and reassuring support when OCD, anxiety or distress becomes overwhelming
  • Encouraging independence while recognising when I need someone to step in and provide practical assistance
  • Helping organise day-to-day activities and routines
  • Supporting me safely with household tasks, including cooking and caring for delicate clothing or textiles
  • Working flexibly as my needs and circumstances develop

About You

I am looking for someone who is calm, compassionate, trustworthy, respectful and reliable. You will need to understand the importance of excellent hygiene and be sensitive to Islamic practices, including ritual purity.

You should be able to remain patient during periods of anxiety or distress, follow detailed instructions, think practically and build a strong, trusting working relationship.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as I am unable to drive or use public transport.

No previous care experience is essential; finding someone with the right personality, values and willingness to learn is most important.

Some flexibility for evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays and occasional short-notice support will be required as the hours increase.
