About the Company:

Our client is a well established and highly respected specialist crop business operating in Kent. The business produces high quality perennial crops using modern production techniques, specialist equipment and skilled crop management practices, supplying premium markets throughout the UK.

Due to continued growth and investment, they are seeking a practical and reliable Farm Operative to support day to day farming operations throughout the year.

Farm Operative - The Job Role Details:

This is a hands on role working as part of a small team, carrying out a wide range of specialist crop production, machinery operation and general agricultural duties.

The successful candidate will be involved in seasonal crop activities throughout the year, operating machinery, supporting crop husbandry programmes and helping to maintain farm infrastructure and wider estate areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out day to day crop production activities
  • Assist with crop husbandry and maintenance programmes
  • Support harvesting operations during seasonal periods
  • Operate tractors, forklifts, telehandlers and other agricultural machinery where qualified
  • Maintain trellis systems, crop support structures and general farm infrastructure
  • Assist with irrigation, cultivation and crop establishment activities
  • Carry out general farm maintenance and estate upkeep
  • Support loading, unloading and movement of produce and materials
  • Carry out basic machinery checks and maintenance tasks
  • Ensure health and safety standards are followed at all times
  • Work alongside colleagues to ensure efficient farm operations throughout the season

Essential Candidate Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience working within commercial fruit production, orchards, vineyards, hops, soft fruit or similar specialist perennial cropping enterprises
  • Practical experience within a Farm Operative, Tractor Driver, General Farm Worker, Agricultural Worker or Horticultural Worker role
  • Experience operating agricultural machinery safely and effectively
  • Good understanding of commercial crop production and general farm operations
  • Strong work ethic with a flexible approach during busy seasonal periods
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Existing Right to Work in the UK

Desirable:

  • PA1 and PA2 spraying qualifications
  • Experience carrying out basic machinery maintenance and repairs
  • Forklift and/or telehandler certification
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Experience with irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of trellis systems and crop support infrastructure

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday with flexibility required during harvest and peak seasonal periods.
