Job Description
Job Description:

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Farm Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a progressive, farm-focused veterinary practice offering an excellent combination of clinical variety, professional independence and supportive teamwork. This opportunity is particularly suited to an experienced farm veterinarian who enjoys working closely with agricultural clients and contributing to the health and productivity of dairy, beef and sheep enterprises. Applications from newly qualified veterinarians with a strong farming background and genuine enthusiasm for livestock medicine will also be considered. The position provides an opportunity to develop practical veterinary expertise while benefiting from a collaborative environment that values individual clinical interests and professional wellbeing.

The successful candidate will undertake a stimulating combination of routine farm visits, livestock emergencies, herd health planning and reproductive veterinary work. Clinical responsibilities encompass fertility scanning, bull breeding soundness assessments, calf health investigations, disease prevention programmes, TB testing and practical obstetrical procedures. Modern equipment, including portable ultrasound scanners and specialist fertility testing technology, supports effective field-based veterinary medicine. With experienced colleagues available for clinical guidance, flexible working arrangements and opportunities to develop additional areas of expertise, the role offers an appealing balance of professional responsibility and long-term career development.

Qualifications Needed:
  • Recognised veterinary degree with eligibility for registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
  • Previous experience in farm animal veterinary medicine is preferred, although motivated new graduates with a substantial agricultural background may be considered.
  • Confidence in livestock handling, practical clinical assessments and communicating effectively with dairy, beef and sheep farmers.
  • A full driving licence suitable for undertaking regular farm visits and responding to emergency veterinary calls.
  • Strong professional judgement, enthusiasm for continued learning and a genuine commitment to improving livestock health and welfare.
Package:
  • Fully equipped veterinary vehicle available to support farm visits, routine clinical duties and emergency call-outs.
  • Accommodation options available, providing additional flexibility for the successful candidate.
  • Working arrangements that can be tailored towards shorter working weeks, flexible hours or greater earning potential.
  • A structured 1-in-4 on-call rota, supporting the provision of emergency farm animal care.
  • Two days of continuing professional development allowance and employer-funded professional registration fees.
  • Opportunities to develop advanced livestock skills, including fertility scanning, reproductive interventions and herd health consultancy.
  • Generous holiday allowance encouraging a healthy balance between professional commitments and personal time.
  • Access to portable diagnostic equipment and specialist reproductive technology for efficient on-farm investigations.
  • An approachable and experienced veterinary team offering clinical support, professional knowledge sharing and mentorship.
  • Potential to develop specialist interests in dairy herd management, beef production, sheep medicine and advanced fertility work.
