Job Description

A well-established and forward-thinking law firm is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor to join its growing Care & Capacity team in Torquay.

The Role

The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload involving care proceedings, capacity issues, and Court of Protection matters, providing expert advice and representation to vulnerable clients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a caseload of Care and Capacity matters from instruction through to conclusion.
  • Representing parents, family members, children, and protected parties in care proceedings.
  • Advising clients on matters relating to mental capacity and Court of Protection applications.
  • Preparing legal documents, statements, applications, and court bundles.
  • Conducting advocacy where appropriate or instructing counsel.
  • Attending court hearings, client meetings, and professional conferences.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, healthcare professionals, and external agencies.
  • Ensuring compliance with SRA regulations and firm procedures.
  • Contributing to business development and the continued growth of the department.
Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive.
  • Previous experience handling Care Proceedings and/or Court of Protection matters.
  • Membership of the Law Society Children Panel would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Excellent client care and communication skills.
  • Strong advocacy and case management abilities.Compassionate and empathetic approach when working with vulnerable clients.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and work effectively under pressure.
  • A team-oriented attitude with a commitment to delivering outstanding service.
