Class SummaryResponsible for providing instruction within the appropriate department/program. Develop and revise curriculum and course work. Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation. Serve on college committees as needed and assigned. Participate in student-oriented instructional and advisement activities as needed and assigned.
Preferred Education/Training/Experience- Graduate coursework in composition and rhetoric.
- Experience teaching at the postsecondary level.
- Experience teaching at a community college and working with diverse student populations.
- Experience or interest in teaching dual-credit students.
- Experience or interest in teaching corequisite-education models or developmental English.
- Experience with online teaching in different platforms and strong experience with technology.
- Graduate coursework in philosophy.
Ability to teach current and potential lower-division college English course offerings, including composition, developmental English, and literature. Knowledge of current best practices in English pedagogy. Familiarity with instructional techniques in teaching English. Must be willing to teach a variety of times and days including dual-credit, remote locations, online, nights, and weekends.
Must have knowledge of principles and practices of teaching and training techniques; detailed knowledge of material being taught in the specific course and program area; knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and learning-centered philosophy; record-keeping procedures; appropriate computer applications, especially word processing and email; written and oral communication skills as applied to interaction with students, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
Knowledge of BrightSpace LMS or comparable system. Knowledge of other in-class and online instructional-technology tools.
Job Duties- Prepare, develop, revise curriculum and course work.
- Meet classes as scheduled.
- Complete grading of course assignments and tests and issue student grades as scheduled in a timely manner.
- Post and maintain office hours for student consultation.
- Serve on committees as appropriate.
- Participate in student recruitment.
- Complete and submit educational assessments as scheduled.

Physical RequirementsPositions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or other move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
