Job Description
Role

You will support the provision of quality patient care within a new state of the art adult acute and children's hospital facility. The Facilities Directorate delivers services such as patient and retail catering, domestic cleaning, portering, and transport. Your main duties will include supporting catering services to patients and hospital functions, regenerating patient meals centrally or at ward level, plating meals as advised by nursing staff, and cleaning and wash up of all equipment, machinery and crockery associated with catering services.

No qualifications or experience are required; all training will be provided on the job. You should be able to work under pressure and have good communication skills. Please note the salary is pro rata for part time hours.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Permanent contract. Part time positions and shift patterns as follows:

  • 2 17.17 hours per week, Monday Friday,
  • 5.56 hours per week, Saturday Sunday,
  • 22.2 hours per week, Monday Friday,
  • 6.55 hours per week, Saturday Sunday,

Please note the salary is pro rata for part time hours.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting the delivery of catering services to patients and hospital functions
  • Regenerating patient meals centrally or at ward level
  • Plating patient meals at the point of service as advised by nursing staff
  • Cleaning and wash up of all equipment, machinery and crockery associated with catering services
  • Assisting food production staff with the basic preparation of meals
  • Undertaking picking and packing of patient meal components
  • Supporting the overall delivery of patient meals to ward level
  • Complying with Food Hygiene Regulations and the HACCP system
  • Maintaining high personal hygiene standards
  • Complying with Health & Safety regulations and completing manual handling, risk assessment and fire safety training
  • Reporting faulty equipment
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job Knowledge

Training
  • Initial Departmental Training
  • Completion of Departmental Lesson Plans held within the Training Manual
  • Ongoing training to meet changes in Health & Safety, Food Safety, Moving and Handling and Infection Control Protocols
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • COSHH
  • Knowledge of departmental quality systems
  • Ability to perform all tasks and duties throughout the department; staff will be trained to facilitate cross service working commensurate with job descriptions for Facilities Assistant (Porter & Catering - Patient/Retail) if required at site level
Experience
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety and Infection Control
  • Food Safety Certificate (not essential as training will be given)
  • Working within a large organisation
