The Facade Manager will lead the delivery, coordination and technical assurance of façade design, fabrication and installation across assigned projects. This role will act as the primary point of contact for façade design teams, specialist sub-contractors and clients, ensuring façades are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required aesthetic and performance standards. The post-holder will drive quality, manage technical risk and ensure compliance with statutory and contractual requirements from design development through to handover.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate façade design development, ensuring buildability, compliance with performance criteria and alignment with the overall project programme.
- Manage tendering and procurement of façade subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating proposals, technical submissions and commercial offers in conjunction with the commercial team.
- Oversee production of detailed façade design information, including drawings, specifications, mock-up requirements and performance testing plans.
- Coordinate and manage façade mock-ups, prototype testing and site trials; review results and implement corrective actions to achieve specified performance.
- Provide technical leadership and support to site teams and subcontractors during installation, ensuring workmanship achieves required tolerances and quality standards.
- Prepare, review and issue technical correspondence, site instructions, snagging lists and handover documentation to maintain clear audit trails.
- Identify and manage design and installation risks, develop mitigation measures and elevate complex technical or commercial issues to senior stakeholders as required.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, building standards and company health & safety policies; promote safe working practices on site.
- Liaise with clients, architects, structural engineers and statutory bodies to resolve technical queries and maintain strong working relationships.
- Monitor and control façade budgets and costs, support preparation of change proposals and assist the commercial team with valuation of variations.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, sharing best practice and mentoring junior staff within the façade team.
- Proven experience managing façade design and delivery on medium to large construction projects, gained with a main contractor, specialist contractor, consultant or developer.
- Strong technical understanding of curtain walling, rainscreen systems, windows, cladding interfaces and associated structural support systems.
- Experience of managing façade mock-ups, performance testing (air, water, structural) and quality assurance processes.
- Good commercial awareness with experience of procurement, contract administration and managing variations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to present complex technical information clearly to clients, design teams and site personnel.
- Organised and methodical with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with drawing review tools, project management software and Document Management Systems is desirable.
- Relevant professional qualification or membership (or equivalent experience) in façade engineering, building engineering, architectural technology or related discipline is advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and supplier facilities as required.
