Experienced Ecologist Required

Veon is seeking to recruit an experienced Ecologist to join our growing team across Ireland. As a company providing ecological services to a wide range of sectors, we require the successful candidate to demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of Irish ecology and to deliver practical solutions for our clients.

Veon offers a wide range of services across the ecology, forestry and arboriculture sectors, all of which will provide a breadth of experience in this field.

Reporting to the Head of Ecology, the successful candidate will have 2-3 years' experience in a similar role. We can offer flexibility regarding the location of the role, and the successful candidate can be based at our Head Office in Dublin or at our Kilkenny, Longford, Limerick, Roscommon or Galway regional offices.

Responsibilities of the Ecologist Role:

• Compile technically robust ecological reports for our clients. These will include, but are not limited to, Preliminary Ecological Assessments, Appropriate Assessments/Natura Impact Statements, and Ecological Impact Assessments.
• Compile Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) reports.
• Conduct fieldwork and be involved in data collection.
• Provide advice and guidance to the wider Veon team on ecological issues as they arise.
• Keep up to date with relevant legislation and guidance to ensure company compliance, and interpret this for colleagues and the Management Team.
• Manage small- and large-scale projects efficiently and meet client deadlines.
• Manage time and project delivery in an organised and proactive manner to ensure smooth delivery of reports and projects.
• Work as a team member and share knowledge, expertise and learning with colleagues.
• Collate and store ecological data and reports, maintaining these records so they are easily and readily accessible to colleagues as required.
• Work as part of a team on the completion of tenders.
• Engage with company systems, e.g. Valms (CRM) and MS Teams.

Requirements of Ecologist Role: The successful candidate should have the following skills:

• A relevant degree in Ecology or a related discipline is essential.
• At least 2 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in consultancy.
• Experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is desirable but not essential.
• Experience producing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) reports is desirable.
• Membership of a relevant professional institute is desirable.
• Proven experience in ecological report writing.
• Experience conducting field surveys, managing field data, and a good knowledge of species identification and habitat classification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders and negotiate practical solutions.
• Ability to manage projects to tight deadlines, with good organisational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
• A full Irish manual driving licence is essential.
• Willingness to travel throughout Ireland.
• Capable of working competently both independently and as part of a team when required.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Authorised to work full-time in Ireland.
