About the role

This is an important operational role within the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Examinations Directorate with responsibility for ensuring accurate, fair and timely administration across the MRCGP examination. The MRCGP is a high-stakes licensing assessment taken by doctors seeking entry to the GMC GP Register. Ensuring that it is fair, accessible, and legally compliant is central to maintaining professional and public confidence.

As Examinations Officer, Reasonable Adjustments, you will manage defined processes across the SCA and AKT examination cycles. You will support candidates who request reasonable adjustments, review these requests and supporting evidence, maintain accurate and auditable records, and help ensure agreed adjustments are implemented correctly and on time for the relevant examination.

You will work in a high-profile and high-risk environment where attention to detail, sound evidence-based judgement and sensitive communication matter. You will take ownership of routine cases within agreed regulations and frameworks, escalating complex cases to specialist and senior colleagues when required.

What you will be responsible for

You will support the effective delivery of reasonable adjustments by:

  • Managing end-to-end reasonable adjustment processing for SCA and AKT examination diets, from receipt and logging through evidence checks, decisions, communications and implementation
  • Reviewing submissions for completeness and clarity, assessing supporting medical evidence against agreed requirements, and requesting further information where needed
  • Making routine decisions on standard outcomes within agreed frameworks, recording decisions and rationale accurately, and escalating complex or high-risk cases
  • Maintaining reliable trackers, logs and candidate records so that information is accurate, current, auditable and available to colleagues as a single source of truth
  • Updating examination delivery systems with agreed adjustments and carrying out post-booking reconciliation and quality checks
  • Managing a busy shared inbox and providing clear responses
Working relationships

You will work closely with:

  • The Senior Manager, Equity and Accessibility, Clinical Leads and disability advisers
  • Examination candidates, trainers, deanery staff, clinicians and examiners
  • External delivery partners, suppliers, call centres and technical support teams
Essential experience and skills
  • Education to A-level standard or equivalent qualification or level of experience
  • Proven administrative experience, ideally in examinations, events management or a comparable deadline-driven environment
  • Experience of providing a professional customer service and handling sensitive or complex enquiries
  • Experience using and maintaining databases, spreadsheets and accurate records
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with tact, empathy and patience
  • A consistently high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and apply regulations, policies and agreed decision-making frameworks
Desirable experience
  • Experience working in examinations, assessment, medical education or another regulated environment
  • Experience supporting reasonable adjustments, accessibility services or disability-related casework
Who this role may suit

This role may particularly suit an organised and conscientious administrator who enjoys owning processes from start to finish, working with detailed information and helping people navigate important requirements. You will be comfortable balancing empathy with consistent application of policy and will understand how careful record keeping and timely communication contribute to fair examination delivery.
