About the roleThe British Omani Society (BOS) is seeking an Events & Programming Assistant to support the delivery of its wide-ranging events programme and youth engagement initiatives. This is a dynamic role in a small and collaborative team, with opportunities to work closely with high-profile UK and Omani stakeholders, including embassies, government representatives, students, alumni, and corporate partners.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver monthly in-house members' events, including speaker liaison, guest support, AV setup, catering, and logistics.
- Lead the organisation of youth schemes (Arabic Language Scheme and Student Volunteers Oman Scheme), including participant recruitment, shortlisting, interviews, visa and travel arrangements, and post-trip feedback.
- Operate and troubleshoot event AV and tech (Zoom, livestream, webinars, recorded lectures, PowerPoint).
- Assist in organising flagship annual events such as the BOS Annual Lunch, Oman Natural Heritage Lecture, Summer Conference, and Football Association Project, often involving senior stakeholders.
- Manage New Generation Group and alumni activities.
- Plan and implement online events (webinars, hybrid formats).
- Contribute ideas to programme planning and development.
- Serve as the first point of contact for member enquiries.
- Reconcile invoices and liaise with the Treasurer for payments.
- Highly reliable, organised, and able to multitask

- Strong initiative and problem-solving abilities
- Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
- Able to work some early mornings/evenings during events (with time off in lieu), and occasionally travel, including potentially to Oman
- Fluent in English, with strong written skills
- Knowledge of or interest in Oman, the Gulf, the Middle East, and Arab culture
