Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Manager to lead our Estates Maintenance team at Yeovil District Hospital. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of maintenance services across a large and complex healthcare environment.

You'll oversee mechanical, electrical, and building trades staff, ensuring that both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works are delivered to the highest standard. You'll also play a crucial role in maintaining statutory compliance, managing resources, and driving continuous improvement across the service.

This role offers a Recruitment and Retention Payment of £3,500 per annum paid monthly.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of circa 20 maintenance staff, fostering a high-performance and positive working culture
  • Plan, prioritise, and allocate maintenance tasks across the hospital estate in line with service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards, regulatory requirements, and Trust policies
  • Oversee both reactive and planned maintenance activities using CAFM systems
  • Monitor performance through KPIs including response times, PPM completion, and operational efficiency
  • Manage budgets related to engineering stock, PPE, and purchasing (including authorised signatory responsibilities)
  • Act as a technical specialist, providing expert guidance on complex maintenance issues
  • Support contract management and maintain strong working relationships with external contractors and stakeholders
  • Conduct audits, risk assessments, and ensure statutory compliance across all maintenance functions
  • Participate in the on-call rota

Qualifications
  • Recognised formal training for either Mechanical, Building or Electrical discipline.
  • Specialist knowledge of Electrical, Building or Mechanical Systems.
  • Significant experience of operational Hard FM services in public sector, multi site organisations.
  • Recognised formal Management training
  • BMS operators training

  • Ability to converse in a professional, approachable and diplomatic manner with all customers.

  • Able to develop effective plans and programmes and deliver against KPIs.
  • Experience of line managing multi-skilled staff.
