Environmental Sustainability Project Manager

PROJECT DELIVERY Identify,initiateand co-ordinateappropriate projectproposals to improve environmentalsustainability Ensure that projectobjectives, scope, deliverables, critical successfactorsand risks are clearly documented and agreed prior to project start. Establish a project team withappropriate operational,clinicaland corporate team membership. Co-ordinate the input of stakeholders and service users to ensure thatappropriate optionsare appraised and delivered. Perform benefits analysis and baseline current system performance before each project starts and ensure there is a plan in place for handover to the operational and clinical leads. Preparation and maintenance of all project documentation, including (but not limited to): project brief, project initiation document, appraisal options, risks, issues, decisions, lessons learned and actions logs, high level and detailed project plans, highlight reports, Project Board reports and papers and contribution to Transformation Team Programme Board reports and papers. Ensure all project documentation and reports are prepared and delivered as specified in the project communications plan and in line with agreed reporting schedules. Set-up and lead project team meetings, involving stakeholders and project team members. Responsible for controlling, directing,planningandallocatingwork and motivating service users to get directly, or indirectly involved with the project and its development. Manage the implementation costs and resources allocatedto the project. Co-ordinate the activity of project team members and contributors ensuring that tasks and work packages are completed satisfactorily and on schedule. Regularly report on progress, monitoringprogress against plan, delivery of the projectobjectives, and post project review including updating the lessons learned and decision logs. Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the post, as may be required by the service and as delegated by the Director for Service Improvement. COMMUNICATIONS Provide advice and guidance to staff and managers across the Trust in relation to sustainability, act as an advocate and champion for sustainability. Develop andmaintainstrong working relationships witha number ofoperational,clinicaland corporate management teams including developing good knowledge of the overall programme aims,objectivesand initiativesso as toprovidemeaningful expert advice. Provide advice and guidance to staff and managers across the Trust in relation to sustainability. Represent the Trust to contractors,suppliersand providers in furtherance of projectobjectives. The post holder willbe requiredto communicate and engage constructively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on a range ofhighly complex, specialist and often contentious issues. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Where relevant, responsibility for managing approved implementation costs and benefits delivery for projects, totalling a net worth between £50K to £2M. To work within the Trust's standing financial instructions and controls. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT Line management (asrequired) Large scale (estimated 5-20 at anyone time,managerand clinician level and above) relationship contacts requiring intensive influencing and relationship skills. Ensure responsible staff have clarity of role andappropriate trainingasrequired. Person specification Education / Qualifications Essential criteria: Higher education qualification /mastersdegree Proven project Management experience Sustainability-related qualifications ExperienceEssential criteria: Project management experience managing multiple complex projects within the NHS or a comparable large organisation Experience in delivering sustainability programmes in a healthcare setting Proven experience of managing major transformational change projects to a successful conclusion including realisingobjectives and benefits delivery within the project deadline and costs Experience of managing and delivering projects using an accepted projectmethodology. Effective supervision of a project team where you do not have direct line management responsibility. Working with operational managers, frontline operational and clinical staff andthird partycontractors. Experience of business process mapping toidentifyand deliver change. Effective analytical andproblem solvingskills. Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options coupled with the ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands. Experience of report development and writing; ensuring the accuracy of information and effective translation for different audiences. Must have experience of managing internal and external stakeholder engagement, including managingrelationshipsand coordinating work between cross-functional teams. Desirable criteria: Experience of operational and non-operational management in the NHS Knowledge Desirable criteria: Working knowledge of a clinical operations environment and how to manage conflicting priorities to ensure projects are delivered. Knowledge of current healthcare policy in the NHS and how this applies to the local health economy. Skills/abilities Essential criteria Able to manage and influence stakeholders internally and externally at all levels. Good presentation and communications skills both verbal and written. Proven ability to build and develop a successful team for each project, drawn from multiple teams across the Trust. Able to refer decisions appropriately,taking into accountthe needs of the situation,constraintsand the availability of information. Plans and organises a broad range of complex activities, formulating and adjusting plans to reflect changing circumstances.
