Job Description
We have a current opening for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist / Senior Specialist (depending on experience). This role is office based in Newbury, West Berkshire and requires regular on site presence in the country of residence to support operations, build trusted partnerships and respond to EHS risks in real time.
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)- Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable legislation in the UK, Nordics and Canada.
- Identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, review and improve control measures, and manage specific risks.
- Update risk matrices and support emergency preparedness.
- Conduct EHS onboarding for employees and contractors and deliver EHS training to individuals and groups.
- Manage and administer critical radiation protection equipment, including lead aprons, protective eyewear and other site specific safety requirements.
- Oversee the dosimetry program, including administration of dosimeters, monitoring exposure readings, escalation of unusual results and initiation of corrective actions.
- Report and respond to incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Support employee initiatives linked to EHS.
- Serve as EHS advisor to country leadership and engage with external EHS stakeholders, including consultants, authorities and auditors.
- Fulfil reporting requirements for packaging waste, batteries and WEEE.
- Lead and run the local ISO14001:2026 Environmental Management System, performing management reviews, objective setting, KPI reporting and employee awareness activities.
- Build strong partnerships with relevant local stakeholders and regularly communicate the EMS to all employees.
- Ensure continuous improvement and success in internal and external audits.
- Contribute to the regional EMS with its multi site certification approach.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to understand current and upcoming customer requirements around sustainability (Environment-Social-Governance, ESG).
- Partner with internal stakeholders to answer those requests, especially related to tenders.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, ISO14001 and risk management principles.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication, documentation, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence across functions and organisational levels without direct authority.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to safety, compliance and quality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related systems.
- Ability to develop practical, business relevant EHS solutions.
- Ability to train, coach and support employees and contractors.
- Strong administrative skills, including accurate record keeping, document control, scheduling and coordination of training, PPE and dosimetry related activities.
- Professional proficiency in English, with effective written and verbal communication in an international business environment.
- Willingness to undertake occasional business travel abroad.
- Knowledge of Life Science, NHS or Medical Devices (advantageous).
- Experience with radiation risk (advantageous).
- Strong willingness to learn; further training and certifications in Environmental Health and Safety will be provided.
