Enterprise Architect/French, Dutch and English speaking

Trilingual Enterprise Architect for a 12-month freelance opportunity based near Brussels.

3 days per week on site

Enterprise Architect required to further accelerate the digital transformation of infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, safeguarding, and evolving the enterprise architecture across multiple domains-from data and application architecture to platform and integration architecture.

You will work cross-functionally with business, engineering, security, operations, and IT platform teams, ensuring that strategic projects are built on robust, sustainable, and compliant architectural standards. You will support the organization in transitioning toward increasingly data-driven, Real Time, and AI-supported processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture & Technology Strategy
• Define the target state enterprise architecture and translate business objectives into concrete roadmaps.
• Perform technology evaluations and platform assessments (cloud-native, hybrid, data streaming, containerized systems).
• Develop and maintain business, application, and data blueprints, capability maps, and end-to-end process views.
• Facilitate evidence-based decision-making via ATAM/CBAM, Architecture Decision Records, and other decision frameworks.

Governance & Architecture Processes

• Establish and lead Architecture Review Boards and define governance artifacts (principles, policies, reference architectures, patterns, standards, golden paths).
• Implement and monitor a Technology Introduction Process for new technologies and platforms.
• Harmonize architecture practices in a federated enterprise context with clear decision rights, alignment, and autonomy.
• Data, Integration & AI-Ready Architectures
• Design Real Time data infrastructure for critical business processes (streaming platforms such as Kafka/Pulsar; stream processing such as Flink).
• Develop Lakehouse architectures (eg, Apache Iceberg) and streaming databases for Real Time consumption.
• Embed Privacy by Design and GDPR compliance into data and integration flows.
• Create a solid foundation for AI adoption, focusing on data quality, governance, traceability, and responsible use.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

• Translate complex architectural concepts into clear insights for senior stakeholders.
• Align business, infrastructure, security, platform, and engineering teams around a shared architectural vision.
• Promote best practices and guide teams in applying them.

Profile

• At least 15+ years of experience in software and enterprise architecture, ideally in complex, regulated, or critical infrastructure environments.
• Proven experience in enterprise architecture maturity, governance, and operating models.
• Strong knowledge of Real Time systems, data platforms, integration architecture, and cloud-native patterns.
• Familiar with architecture methods such as ATAM, CBAM, ADRs, ArchiMate, TOGAF, or BiZZdesign.
• Affinity with security architecture, data protection, and compliance in highly critical environments.
• Excellent communication skills, both technical and business oriented.
• Experience in organizations where 24/7 continuity, safety, and compliance are crucial is a plus.
