This role will be responsible for shaping and guiding the enterprise architecture that enables our business to scale, adapt, and innovate. Provide leadership that fosters alignment across IT and the wider organisation by promoting shared capabilities, reusable solutions, and common standards. Move from reactive problem-solving to proactive roadmap development that anticipates business needs and market change. Minimise customisation and fragmented solutions, focusing instead on modular building blocks and microservices that drive speed to value, operational efficiency, and seamless customer experiences. Build a strong architecture community by mentoring, developing career pathways, and embedding best practices to grow the next generation of retail technology leaders.
ResponsibilitiesArea of Responsibility: Strategy & Roadmap
- Develop the overall IT vision and investment strategy, aligned to the overall company strategy and goals.
- Understand disruptive forces and the business's economic and financial levers that are susceptible to digital transformation to effectively guide technology investment decisions.
- Translate strategy into an architectural roadmap, modelling to cover transition and migration steps required to reach the target architecture. Communicate the roadmap effectively to all stakeholders.
- Continuous review of all IT services and underlying architectures to identify duplication, obsolescence, gaps compared to peers/competitors, complexity that can be simplified and bring results into updated strategy and roadmaps.
- Monitor the market to gain knowledge and understanding of currently emerging technologies, assessing their relevance and potential for Musgrave.
- Ensure we have a scalable, secure, flexible, extensible architecture that can adapt to changing business and competitor environments.
Area of Responsibility: Manage the EA Practice
- Develop and maintain EA framework, methodologies, skills, disciplines and principles.
- Define, develop and embed architectural principles and standards across the group, both within and outside of IT.
- Deploy and maintain an EA repository.
- Lead the Architecture practice within Musgrave. Ensures the EA organisational design process leads to a more efficient and effective business and IT decision making with architecture resources who are empowered and committed to the integration of business and IT.
- Identifies critical skills, competencies and career paths for EA team members and identifies training to help them develop and progress in their careers.
- Regularly and pro-actively identifies risks and issues and ensures appropriate steps to mitigate risks are in place and issues are remediated on a timely basis.
- Plan and coordinate architecture to ensure compliance with regulations, standards and requirements.
Area of Responsibility: Solutioning
- Bring in best practice in EA solution definitions and development procedures, processes and working practices.
- Proactively demonstrate appropriate innovation (both technical and process) opportunities
- Deliver architectural solutions to ensure effective use of overall landscape, minimise customisation and maximise value creation from our investments and application landscape.
- Mediate where required around multiple solution options and drive to optimal outcomes. Leads and facilitates workshops to find and align on architecture solutions with diverse stakeholders who may have differing views.
- Engage with vendors at all stages of lifecycle to support, challenge, assess, validate and communicate on the solutions they bring.
- Clearly delineate between accountability and responsibility across architecture disciplines: enterprise, solution and application.
- Third level IT qualification
- 15+ years broad IT experience (Support, Development, PM, and solution architecture roles)
- Project team management experience
- Experience of large IT transformation projects across key architecture domains - Business, Data, Applications and Technology
- Understanding of existing, new and emerging technologies, and processing environments.
- Organisationally savvy, and understanding of the political climate of the enterprise and how to navigate obstacles and stakeholders.
- Balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions and organisation goals.
