English Teacher Harrogate

About the role:

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English to start in September on a full time basis; this is a full-time supply role initially, with the possibility of a long-term contract for the right candidate.

You will be joining a well-run secondary school in Harrogate with a warm, respectful culture and high expectations for learning and conduct. The school has a strong focus on literacy and reading for pleasure, with established routines and resources that help teachers deliver consistently strong English lessons.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4, supporting pupils to develop reading, writing and spoken language skills.
• Plan and assess in line with the school's curriculum and the relevant exam board specification (Language and Literature).
• Teach a range of texts and genres, modelling high-quality writing and analysis.
• Support exam preparation, feedback and interventions where required.
• Differentiate to meet a range of abilities, including SEND and EAL where applicable.

Pre-requisites:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching English in a UK secondary school (KS3/KS4 essential).
• Strong subject knowledge in English Language and English Literature.
• Confidence teaching GCSE exam requirements and supporting pupils with extended writing and analysis.
