The Endoscopy Lead Clinical Educator plays a central role in ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, evidence based care within a complex and rapidly evolving speciality. This post provides expert clinical leadership, education and professional development for all staff working across the Endoscopy service including nurses, HCAs, decontamination teams and new starters. The role will be working across the 3 sites - Royal hospital, County Hospital and the CDC.
A key part of the role is the oversight and management of the JETS and JAG training and accreditation requirements.
Working closely with the Endoscopy matron, Clinical Leads and the wider MDT, the Lead Clinical Educator drives the development of a competent and confident workforce.
Main duties of the jobLead the planning, delivery and evaluation of education and training programmes for all Endoscopy staff.
Develop and maintain competency frameworks aligned with national standards and local service needs.
Oversee the management and accuracy of all training records within the JETS system ensuring staff competencies, assessments and training activity are up to date.
Work clinically within the Endoscopy Unit to model high quality practice, support staff in real time and maintain credibility as an expert practitioner.

Job responsibilitiesDevise and lead the delivery of a high quality evidence based education programmes within Endoscopy. This will involve implementing the education programme over the three Endoscopy sites at Royal Stoke, County and the CDC. Lead and be responsible for ensuring that annual clinical competency updating is achieved as per national requirements within the specialty areas. Play a key role in coordinating and delivering the on going education needs required to support the successful introduction.
Devise and coordinate the delivery of specialty study days and clinical events days and develop tailored development education programmes for delivery on an individual basis and to the wider teams. Coordinate the student nurse experience and support recruitment, education and learning of staff new in post, including newly qualified Registered Nurses through successful completion of their preceptorship programme. Keep up to date with the latest national guidelines and changes in policy that affect practice. Be responsible for communicating changes required in nursing practice specifically related to the specialty area and within the Trust and deliver additional training as required. Contribute to staff recruitment and retention by ensuring the educational induction of new staff to the area is coordinated and supported effectively. Organise their time effectively to ensure that all staff can access and receive educational support irrespective of shift patterns. Develop individualised action plans to support staff to achieve the level of clinical competency required for the role. Positively and actively contribute to the Trust Improving Together strategy involving supporting new ways of working that involve further education and development. To lead the initiation and implementation of evidence based nursing practice. Undertake and implement inter professional educators to complete supervised practice of nursing staff within the clinical area. Identifying & acting appropriately if any concerns are identified. The post will entail routinely working clinically alongside staff to train and upskill new and current staff for all aspects of Endoscopy. This would include teaching on the unit (in procedure rooms) hands on during endoscopy lists to deliver practical training. Ensure and promote that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times. Represent the Department on appropriate groups and committees.
To facilitate the delivery of mandatory and statutory training. Liaise with inter professional educators to promote an environment within the Designated Unit that is conducive to clinical training and professional development. Liaise with the Senior Sister, Clinical Educators of each area and management team to identify training needs and to plan, implement and evaluate training programmes for all staff in the Designated Unit. Deliver training, education, orientation and induction programmes. Work closely with senior nursing management regarding development, education and staff support. Maintain, evaluate and develop the orientation and induction programmes for all staff and the programme for their further professional development according to the Directorate strategy for training and education. To liaise with personnel from other specialities including The Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy (META) in order to develop programmes which will advance nursing practice within the Designated Unit. To network and form relationships with members of the Academy and teach within this faculty where required. To foster a good working relationship with relevant academic staff from the University thus ensuring that the needs of student nurses are identified. To ensure that the needs of student nurses are facilitated during their allocation to the Unit modalities, ensuring that regular evaluation of this service takes place and is acted upon. Identify and facilitate the training and development needs of all registered and unregistered staff. Provide mentorship and support for all staff undertaking further education and training. To participate in the maintenance and delivery of JAG accreditation and GRS standards for the unit. To become a faculty member for the JETs Workforce and participate in teaching with this programme where required. To support staff in gaining their relevant qualifications within JETs, such as ENDO1/2. Coordinate and ensure that staff are maintaining their JETs workforce portfolio and to be a sign off assessor for this. Coordinate and deliver the formation and delivery of extended working in new ways training packages for all staff.
To establish and maintain effective channels of communication within the directorate, liaising closely with all members of the multi disciplinary team. Ensure a knowledge base which reflects contemporary issues in clinical practice. Ensure that all inter professional educators adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
