Location: Bromley, London

Reports to: Senior Employment and Skills Manager

About the Role

London Borough of Bromley is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Employment Specialist to join the Trailblazer Programme, supporting residents who are economically inactive to move into and sustain meaningful employment.

This is a rewarding role where you will work directly with residents, employers, and local partners to remove barriers to employment and help people achieve their career goals. You will provide tailored employment coaching, support job searching, build employer relationships, and provide ongoing in-work support to help individuals succeed.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting people with barriers to employment, including those with health conditions, disabilities, long-term unemployment, or other disadvantages.

Key Responsibilities Employment Support & Coaching
  • Provide personalised one-to-one employment support to residents enrolled on the Trailblazer Programme.
  • Complete assessments and develop individual employment support plans based on each participant's goals, skills, and circumstances.
  • Support participants with:
    • CV writing
    • Job searching
    • Applications
    • Interview preparation
    • Confidence building
    • Career planning
  • Identify barriers to employment and develop practical solutions to help residents move towards sustainable work.
Supporting Residents into Employment
  • Work with participants to identify suitable job opportunities aligned with their skills, interests, and aspirations.
  • Match residents with appropriate vacancies and support them throughout the recruitment process.
  • Provide coaching and encouragement to help individuals overcome challenges and achieve employment goals.
  • Support participants to access available financial support and employment incentives where appropriate.
Employer Engagement & Job Opportunities
  • Build positive relationships with local employers and business networks to identify employment opportunities.
  • Work alongside employer engagement colleagues to create suitable job matches for participants.
  • Promote inclusive recruitment practices and support employers to understand the benefits of hiring diverse talent.
  • Advise employers on workplace adjustments and support available for individuals with health conditions or disabilities.
In-Work Support & Job Retention
  • Provide continued coaching and support once participants move into employment.
  • Act as a link between employees and employers to help resolve workplace challenges.
  • Support individuals and employers with:
    • Workplace adjustments
    • Communication challenges
    • Confidence issues
    • Maintaining employment
    • Career progression
Partnership Working & Outreach
  • Promote the Trailblazer Programme through community outreach, networking, and information sessions.
  • Develop effective relationships with:
    • Jobcentre Plus
    • DWP teams
    • Healthcare professionals
    • Community organisations
    • Voluntary sector partners
    • Council services
  • Support the identification and onboarding of eligible programme participants.
About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping people achieve their employment goals and has experience delivering personalised employment support.

You will have:

  • Experience supporting individuals into paid employment, particularly those facing barriers such as health conditions, disabilities, or long term unemployment.
  • Experience managing a caseload and providing structured employment coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of job search techniques, CV writing, interview preparation, and career development.
  • Experience working with employers and promoting inclusive recruitment practices.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with residents, employers, and external partners.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem solving skills.
Essential Skills & Experience Employment Coaching
  • Experience delivering one-to-one employment support.
  • Ability to assess individual needs and create effective action plans.
  • Experience supporting job applications, interviews, and employment progression.
Employer Engagement
  • Experience developing relationships with employers or external organisations.
  • Ability to identify suitable employment opportunities.
  • Understanding of inclusive recruitment and workplace adjustments.
Caseload Management
  • Experience managing multiple participants or clients.
  • Strong administration, record keeping, and reporting skills.
  • Experience using CRM or case management systems.
Partnership Working
  • Experience working with multiple agencies or stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate with organisations such as health services, councils, charities, or employment providers.
Knowledge Required
  • Understanding of employment support programmes and barriers faced by economically inactive residents.
  • Knowledge of recruitment processes and labour market trends.
  • Awareness of the Equality Act 2010 and reasonable workplace adjustments.
  • Understanding of support available through DWP, Jobcentre Plus, and employment programmes.
  • Awareness of challenges faced by people with disabilities, health conditions, or disadvantaged backgrounds.
Qualifications & Experience

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in supported employment, vocational rehabilitation, employment coaching, careers advice, or a related field.

A relevant qualification is desirable, but significant relevant experience supporting individuals into employment will be considered.
