Job Description

It is a strategic, consultative role, partnering closely with Team Resources (HR), senior leaders and the wider business to manage employment risk, shape people related strategy and ensure legal compliance while enabling growth.

Responsibilities Employment Law Advisory & Risk Management

Operate as an in house expert on employment law matters across Brown & Brown (Europe), providing clear, pragmatic and commercially sound advice. Advise on the full lifecycle of employment issues, including hiring, performance management, disciplinary action, grievances, restructures and exits. Proactively identify employment law risks and work collaboratively with Team Resources and leadership to mitigate them.

Policies & Documentation

Develop, update and advise on employment policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with current legislation, best practice and Brown & Brown's culture.

Employee Relations & Investigations

Provide legal support on complex grievance and disciplinary matters, including advising on process, attending meetings where appropriate, and drafting outcome letters. Support and advise on workplace investigations, ensuring fairness, procedural integrity and defensibility of outcomes. Guide the business through sensitive and high risk employee relations matters with confidence and discretion.

TUPE, Restructuring & Change

Provide advice and guidance on TUPE matters, including due diligence, consultation requirements, contractual implications and post transfer integration. Support restructures, redundancies and organisational change programmes, ensuring legal compliance and minimising employee relations risk. Work closely with Team Resources and the wider Legal team to ensure coordinated advice.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Draft and advise on settlement agreements and lead employment related settlement discussions. Manage and support employment tribunal and court claims, including instructing and liaising with external counsel where required. Represent Brown & Brown in employment tribunals and other forums, where appropriate. Advise on restrictive covenants, confidentiality obligations and post termination disputes, including involvement in High Court proceedings when necessary.

Stakeholder Partnership & Leadership

Act as the first point of contact for Team Resources on employment law matters, providing timely, practical and trusted advice. Build strong, collaborative relationships with senior leaders, HR colleagues and the wider Legal team. Translate complex legal issues into clear, accessible guidance for non legal stakeholders.

Regulatory & Legislative Awareness

Keep up to date with developments in employment law across England & Wales and relevant European jurisdictions. Contribute to continuous improvement of employment law capability across the business.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of five years solicitor post qualification and independent legal experience from a reputable legal environment specialising in employment law.

Desirable
  • Sector Experience: Previous experience working within the Financial Services industry is desirable.
  • Regulatory Awareness: An understanding of the regulatory landscape (e.g., FCA requirements) would be advantageous in contextualising material.
