About UsCorporate Services in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and expert professionals go above and beyond for their colleagues every day. Daphne, our champion for people with learning difficulties, is a real beacon. She doesn't just advocate for colleagues with these difficulties, she teaches managers how to identify and understand the conditions and support their teams at work. Daphne has an innate ability to see the human behind every situation, helping them capitalise on strengths and overcome challenges to be their very best. With her empathy and expertise, she's a natural. But then, a lifetime of managing her own dyslexia and dyspraxia brings with it unique insight. Our people - and ultimately residents - benefit every day.
The RoleAs Employability Officer, you will help residents secure employment. The Westminster Employability Programme creates employability packages for priority groups of residents, intended to be innovative and inclusive. You will assist in their creation, including time, cost and scope interventions, and feed into regular reviews of the programme so that we are always evolving to better meet resident needs. Your work will involve desk research, conversations with stakeholders, insights from service delivery, trial and testing of new employability programmes, and regular horizon scanning of national and local legislation to ensure our provision adapts easily.
You will signpost clients to other local and Westminster City Council services when needed, such as mental health charities, NHS services, social services or housing providers.
It is key that you manage your own time and caseload and communicate confidently with service users. If you join us, you will be supported to reach your professional aspirations.
About YouYou are dedicated to supporting vulnerable populations with barriers to employment, including those with mental health difficulties, disability, homelessness or offending behaviour. You have a sound knowledge of various social and public policy initiatives that impact these groups and have created employability packages to address their unique needs. You are innovative, regularly review provisions and take action to improve them.
You work collaboratively and communicate to a broad range of people, building trust and rapport so people feel comfortable sharing their barriers. You are a problem solver, applying structured thinking and evidence to tackle challenges and deliver practical solutions. You have coached clients, including those that face multiple disadvantages, and supported them to secure employment.
You have experience in workshop creation and delivery, use technology and systems to aid employment, and conduct high quality desk research and information gathering. You have taken a resident and data led approach to improving employability programmes and shared your work with senior stakeholders. You remain resilient under high pressure and focus on key priorities and deliverables, keeping records, sign off and escalation policies in line with organisational standards. You are enthusiastic about helping people find fulfilling employment.
