Job Description
About your new role

Our Casualty teams provide expert services in defending public (PL) and employers' liability (EL) claims across both private and public sectors, including travel-related claims.

Weightmans' team is renowned for defendant litigation services in these and other Casualty areas, operating nationally with dedicated commercial insurance and public sector teams.

In this role, working with some of our biggest insurer clients, you will be responsible, under supervision, for managing your own varied caseload daily.

You will also assist Partners and team members in handling a wide range of claims on behalf of corporate bodies and insurers. Tasks include managing pre-litigation and litigation casualty claims, such as international travel claims, Pre-Action Disclosure applications, Stage 3 hearings, Infant Approvals, preparing witness statements, conducting legal and factual research, drafting instructions to Counsel and experts, preparing client reports, court attendance, client meetings, and responding to correspondence and enquiries.

This list is not exhaustive; additional duties within the wider role scope are expected.

About You

You should have relevant experience and a genuine interest in this area. Additionally, you should possess:

  • Ability to manage a caseload of non-litigated and litigated claims, including EL, PL, and Travel claims.
  • Skills to control Case Manager diaries and action lists.
  • Willingness to attend court hearings as needed.
  • Proficiency in drafting various documents such as letters and reports.
  • Commitment to client care standards in line with guidelines, directions, and SLAs.
  • Ability to complete MI procedures accurately.
  • Capability to meet financial and chargeable targets.
  • Knowledge of relevant rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Up-to-date legal knowledge.
  • Alignment with Weightmans' values and compliance with Data Protection Procedures.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, team working, time management, organizational, and IT skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel.

If you meet these criteria and are enthusiastic and eager to learn, we look forward to your application.
