Working 36.5 Hours per week

This is an exciting time to join the Children and Young Peoples' Travel Service (CYPTS). CYPTS currently provide 6,000 children and young people for whom, without transport provision, would not be able to attend education.

We are looking for an Eligibility and Review Officer to join the CYPTS team who will report to the Application, Eligibility and Review Team Leaders. You will work closely with families to assess and plan for travel support and contribute to the provision of safe, efficient and effective travel solutions to improve outcomes for children and young people. You will provide support, consistent and thorough advice, assessment of applications and eligibility for specialist travel provision by adhering to agreed policies and procedures.

You will be required to travel across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands to carry out physical risk assessments that ensure safe and suitable travel arrangements for children and young people. This will include visiting schools to build effective working relationships with staff and other professionals. You will complete detailed risk assessments and provide clear, evidence based recommendations on the most appropriate mode of travel for eligible children and young people, enabling them to access education safely and consistently.

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A good standard of literacy, numeracy skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Good communication skills; you must also be confident in communicating with external stakeholders to work with parents, members, service providers and school establishments, achieving positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to review and process information accurately, using strong attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and local policies related to Special Educational Needs.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people with special educational needs and their families.
  • Knowledge of Special Education Needs, Disabilities, medical conditions, and mobility issues.
  • Understanding of Education Health and Care Plans when assessing the needs of a young person.
  • Ability to deliver a positive, solution focused service to customers or colleagues.
  • Experience of providing a service to a diverse range of stakeholders to promote inclusivity and access for all.

The role will offer hybrid working with travel across Birmingham.
