Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking to appoint two qualified Electrical Engineers. The successful candidates will join our Team and support the Project Manager in delivering a major electrical overhaul.
These roles will retrospectively manage and oversee key responsibilities associated with the planning, coordination, execution, and close-out of the electrical scope of works, ensuring compliance with standards, statutory regulations, and best industry practice.
Safety & Compliance
- Work closely with the Safety Adviser and project team members to ensure all activities comply with statutory Safety, Health & Environmental regulations and Technical Standards and Guidelines.
- Perform the role of Work Controller under Safety System of Work (SSoW) Rules, including:
- Planning works in accordance with safety rules
- Requesting isolations from the Operations Team
- Creating and issuing permits required to safely complete the Electrical Scope
- Undertake regular safety, environmental, and quality audits during the overhaul.
Scope Development & Contract Management
- Develop the Electrical Overhaul Scope.
- Prepare work packages, technical specifications, and tender documentation.
- Evaluate tenders and award contracts for assigned work packages.
- Manage contractors involved in the electrical overhaul scope.
- Use theContractor Management (CM) process to manage assigned contracts, including:
- Kick-Off Meetings
- Progress Meetings
- Close-Out Meetings
- Tracking contract progress using CM tools
- Work with the Project Manager to control costs for assigned contracts.
Technical Delivery & Quality Assurance
- Liaise with EMP specialist teams to deliver the overhaul in line with defined protocols and procedures.
- Develop and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for the electrical scope.
- Manage quality in accordance with the Project Quality Plan.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and act as the primary point of contact for contractors.
- Review key ITP protocol sheets.
- Support station management and maintenance teams throughout the project life cycle.
- Use plant modification processes for all electrical plant modifications.
- Ensure all electrical procedures and drawings are updated accordingly.
- Create and issue an Electrical Close-Out Report at project completion.
Reporting & Communication
- Report on progress against schedule.
- Attend and contribute to project meetings as required by the Project Manager.
- Prepare high-quality technical and progress reports.
General
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience planning major power station overhauls, including logistics, procurement, specification development, and contractor management.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience within the Power Generation Industry.
- Demonstrated experience with Power Plant Electrical Systems, including:
- HV & LV Switchgear and associated protection systems
- Transformers
- Excitation Systems
- Generators
- Starting Devices
- Strong understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong report writing capability.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and share knowledge.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Full clean driving licence (Category B).
Desirable
- Previous Work Controller authorisation.
- Experience working with Permit Systems and knowledge of SSoW Rules.
- Experience in the construction, commissioning, and overhaul of thermal power plants.
- Experience commissioning and recommissioning plant upgrades in accordance with Grid Code requirements.
- Previous major overhaul experience.
Essential
- Minimum Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate or
- Level 7 (NFQ) or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Desirable
- Additional specialist training relevant to power generation, commissioning, or safety systems.
- Strong leadership and contractor management capability
- High level of safety awareness and commitment
- Detail-oriented with strong technical judgement
- Proactive and solution-focused
- Capable of working under schedule pressure during outage periods
