Location: Derby / Bristol / Hybrid

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join Rolls-Royce.

In this role, you will operate within a wider power electronics team to deliver cutting-edge power electronic solutions supporting Rolls-Royce's electrification and low carbon strategies. You will be involved in delivering complex power electronic conversion systems that condition and control electrical power for applications ranging from tens of kW to 1MW. You will take full ownership of solutions from concept through design, testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities
  1. Act as a technical point of contact for power electronic systems involving AC/DC and DC/AC conversions and solid-state controllers.
  2. Develop optimal power electronic solutions considering system requirements, power quality, EMC, and protection.
  3. Own specific solutions from concept to installation, covering electrical, thermal, and mechanical design aspects.
  4. Present solutions at design review gates and interface with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Innovate to improve existing methods, capture IP, and support research activities at university technology centers.
  6. Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across teams for system optimization.
  7. Stay updated on the latest power electronics technologies and standards.
  8. Engage with the global power electronics community to share knowledge and develop standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in power electronic systems development, design, and verification.
  • Knowledge of domain interfaces, component behavior, and verification vehicles, including an understanding of electrical design and system architecture.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools for power systems.
  • PCB design experience using Altium and/or Cadence is advantageous.
  • Degree in engineering or related field.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proactive research skills and ability to seek external solutions.
  • Ability to train and develop others.
