Oxford Economics, a leading economic forecasting and consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and ambitious Economist or Senior Economist to join our growing EMEA Macro Consulting team, based in Belfast.
The role focuses on delivering macroeconomic analysis and market forecasting for companies and public sector clients across EMEA, as part of consulting projects, helping clients to understand economic developments and the implications for their business.
The successful candidate will work across a range of consulting projects, supporting clients with macroeconomic insight, market forecasts, and risk analysis. The role requires strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, and familiarity with Python, R, and econometric techniques for applied analysis. It offers strong skill development and career progression opportunities, with scope to learn from and work closely with experienced economists from across Oxford Economics' wider UK and global network and take on greater responsibility over time depending on individual performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities Client Engagement- Support client engagement across macroeconomic and market forecasting consulting projects for corporate and public sector clients across EMEA
- Contribute to client discussions, presentations, and meetings, helping explain analysis, forecasts, and implications for business decision-making
- Act as a point of contact for defined areas of analysis, responding to client questions with clear and timely inputs
- Contribute to the delivery of consulting projects by producing high-quality economic analysis, forecasts, and supporting materials including reports and presentations
- Present aspects of analytical work in internal and client-facing meetings, tailored to both non-technical and technical business audiences
- Ensure project deliverables are clear, accurate, and appropriately structured for different client audiences
- Support senior team members in maintaining strong client relationships and high levels of client satisfaction
- Contribute to the preparation of proposals and client pitches, including analytical inputs and presentation materials
- Assist in identifying opportunities to extend existing projects or support new client engagements, ensuring proposals align client needs with Oxford Economics' capabilities
- Limited travel within Europe may be required
- Maintain flexibility to support client needs across various locations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (other European languages are a plus)
- Ability to communicate complex economic and quantitative information clearly to non-specialist audiences
- Ability to produce high-quality project deliverables with appropriate structure and clarity
- Strong people skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues across different offices and locations
- Degree in Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline, such as Econometrics and Data Science
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in an analytical, consulting, or research role for the Economist Role, and longer (3-4+ years) for the Senior Economist role
- Experience working on project-based deliverables, with the ability to manage multiple tasks or workstreams simultaneously
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience working with macroeconomic and market datasets
- Experience in econometrics and/or programming in Python and/or R for applied time-series analysis and forecasting
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills for analysis, modelling, and presentations
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines
- High attention to detail and a structured, task-oriented approach to work
- Experience applying econometric and/or data science techniques in a professional or applied setting
- Experience in a client-facing role, including responding to client queries and contributing to the development of commercial relationships
- Experience applying macroeconomic or market forecasts to assess business, sector, or market outcomes
