An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Echocardiographer or Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist specialised in Echocardiography.
You will be based on the Aintree Hospital site but will provide services to Broadgreen and Royal Hospitals. Given the nature of the department a flexible working pattern.
Applicants must be BSE accredited, have completed either a BSc in Healthcare Science or PGCert in Echocardiography. Applicants must have RCCP or be working towards RCCP registration If an ETP candidate
Main duties of the jobThe department provides Cardiology services to Liverpool and the surrounding regions.
- Provide Echocardiography to inpatients and outpatients.
- Perform Echocardiography independently to BSE dataset guidelines.
- Report and analyse Echo results in line with BSE guidance.
- Line manage staff within your team with assistance of the department manager.
- Perform advanced techniques such as TOE, Exercise/Dobutamine Echo, Bubble studies, Contrast studies and more.

Job responsibilities- Perform echocardiograms autonomously on outpatient and inpatients to a high standard.
- Report complex clinical data obtained by echocardiography in a timely manner and produce an accurate report to BSE standards.
- Practice the standards as outlined by the British Society of Echocardiography in both image acquisition and reporting.
- Highlight abnormalities to the referring medical/clinical team.
- Organise work at the start of every session by assessing mode of patient transport and infection control precautions.
- Act to professional standards outlined by the RCCP.
- Aim to complete RCCP accreditation as soon as possible.
- Be willing to undertake training in other areas of clinical physiology as required.
- Be compliant in advanced echocardiographic techniques including TOE, Bubble, Contrast and stress echocardiography.
- Be ILS trained.
- Liaise with Lead Clinical Physiologist to maintain appropriate level of resources.
- Be responsible for the safe use of all equipment within the department and specific areas.
- Recognise equipment faults and ensure details are documented and appropriate steps taken for their correction.
- Maintain own continuing professional and personal development.
- Ensure clean and tidy procedure environments are maintained.
- Ensure up to date information bases for patient and other activities are maintained.
- Be self motivated to ensure completion of individual and overall workloads.
- Contribute to meetings with other staff relating to changes within the working area.
- Assist with maintenance of local risk management policies.
- Understand and use Cardiac/Respiratory Information systems and their application within Cardiac/Respiratory Physiology.
- Engage in audit, research and development relevant to the Cardiac/Respiratory Department.
- Comply with Trust and local policies.
- Be responsible for the care of patient when performing examination.
- Liaise with physiology, medical, technical, nursing, portering, domestic, clerical, administrative and other staff as necessary within this Trust.
- Direct contact with patients, relatives and carers.
- Communication with manufacturers is also necessary.
- Maintain a responsible, professional relationship at all times.
- Undergraduate honours degree (1st or 2.1 class) in cardiac physiology or a relevant scientific subject.
- PGCert in Echocardiography or Clinical Physiology Degree.
- BSE accreditation.
- Will obtain RCCP accreditation as soon as possible.
- RCCP accreditation.
- ILS.
- Able to work autonomously performing and reporting echocardiograms.
- Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of own work and under guidance of departmental supervisors.
- Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgements, including clinical judgements involving facts or situations that impact on patients.
- Good understanding of ethics and professional practice, the NHS constitution and the importance of patient centred care.
- Highly developed coordination skills with good dexterity and hand eye coordination for fine analytical techniques.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of common computing packages for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both writing and speaking in English language.
- Effective team worker.
- Good active listening skills to build rapport with the listener and encourage open discussion.
