You will lead the operational management of the Cellular Pathology directorate, ensuring safe, efficient end to end specimen pathways and delivery of agreed activity, quality and turnaround time standards.
Working with the Clinical Director as part of the senior leadership team, you will manage performance, workforce planning, rosters and budgets; oversee governance, incident response and compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements; and drive service improvement, digital transformation and capacity planning.
You will build strong relationships with theatres, clinics and corporate teams, communicate clearly with staff and stakeholders, and support a positive culture of continuous improvement, patient focus and staff wellbeing.
Active management of the directorate's laboratory and staff is essential, ensuring compliance with UKAS standards and that all staff maintain their state registration.

Responsibilities include:
- Providing scientific service provision and supporting clinicians and service users.
- Writing and reviewing the directorate's strategic and operational policies, including Quality, Health & Safety and Training & Development. Authorising standard operating procedures and guidance used in service provision.
- Presenting verbally or in writing the director's strategic and operational plans.
- Implementing and coordinating with other directorates government initiatives affecting services.
- Managing the directorate's budget, setting targets, monitoring spending and procuring capital equipment and supplies.
- Dealing with complaints and managing staff within the directorate.
- Ensuring the laboratory complies with UKAS standards and all staff maintain state registration.
