Director of Platform Operations - Insurance - Outside IR35

Location: Hybrid (1-2 days a week in office)
Rate: Outside IR35
Duration: 12-18 months (potential path to permanent)

We are looking for a senior Platform Operations leader to rapidly stabilise and uplift operational maturity while maintaining live operations at a major health insurance organisation undergoing large-scale transformation, including cloud migration, network modernisation, and organisational change. This hands-on leadership role focuses on operational stability, leading major incidents, and improving reliability across internal and vendor teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Stabilise operations and drive operational maturity through improved processes, governance, and service reliability.
• Lead major incident (P1) response, coordinate teams and vendors, and ensure post-incident learning is applied.
• Introduce operational cadence, SLAs/SLOs, and observability improvements.
• Support cloud migration, network transformation, and hybrid environment stability.
• Lead internal teams (~30-50) and vendors (~100) across UK and India.

Qualifications & Experience

• Director/Head of Platform or Infrastructure Operations, or Head of SRE experience.
• Proven track record of stabilising live environments and improving operational maturity.
• Incident leadership, DR, reliability, and SRE principles experience.
• Experience managing large distributed teams and multi-vendor environments.
• Regulated environments experience required.
