National Grid invites you to join as a Digital Product Line Director based in Warwick with hybrid working. This pivotal, high impact role sits at the core of our Great Grid Upgrade - a multi billion pound investment that will transform the UK's electricity network. You will lead a world class, digital by default early stage development function that shapes how billions of pounds of infrastructure investment are conceived, prioritised, and delivered. Your work will directly influence how the Great Grid Upgrade is planned and executed, embedding innovation, transparency, and smarter decision making into every stage of the programmes.
What You'll Do- Lead the use of data, AI, automation and emerging technologies to transform the design, development and operation of the UK's transmission network.
- Define and embed a digital by default, data led approach that unlocks faster, smarter, and more sustainable infrastructure decisions from the earliest stages.
- Drive adoption of advanced analytics, intelligent automation and AI enabled decision making, enabling predictive planning, scenario modelling and optimised network outcomes at scale.
- Shape how digital innovation underpins a once in a generation investment programme, building future ready, operable and resilient energy systems.
- Own end to end accountability for the product line, including vision, investment decisions, roadmap, adoption, value realisation and long term ownership.
- Build data driven, AI enabled digital products that deliver measurable outcomes and redefine infrastructure decision making.
- Translate complex data, user needs and technology opportunities into compelling product strategies and scalable solutions.
- Embed experimentation, rapid iteration and continuous improvement, ensuring products are built for scale, interoperability and long term evolution.
- Lead complex, insight driven analysis using data, modelling and emerging tools to shape strategic direction.
- Champion scenario modelling and advanced analytics to assess options and inform investment decisions.
- Enable confident, evidence based decisions through robust business cases grounded in data and technology led insight.
- Define and manage requirements that fully leverage data architecture, AI capabilities and automation opportunities.
- Ensure alignment between business needs, digital capabilities and long term technology strategy.
- Drive transformation through intelligent automation, AI and digital workflows, unlocking efficiency and consistency at scale.
- Redesign processes to be data first, insight led and increasingly autonomous, reducing manual intervention and improving outcomes.
- Build and embed capability in AI, data science, advanced analytics and digital product management across the organisation.
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation and continuous learning, ensuring National Grid stays at the forefront of technological advancement.
- Anticipate and leverage emerging trends (AI, machine learning, IoT) to shape future capability.
- Embed value realisation and benefits management in digital investment, using data to track adoption, performance and outcomes.
- Embed a culture of value realisation driven by insight and continuous optimisation.
- Ensure modern engineering practices fully leverage cloud platforms, data ecosystems and AI capabilities, embedding security, privacy and ethical use of AI and data as core principles.
- Promote the role of data, AI and digital innovation at senior levels of the organisation.
- Build strong partnerships across business and technology to accelerate adoption of emerging capabilities.
- Act as a strategic leader in driving cultural and behavioural change toward a digital first, data led organisation.
- Deep technology leadership and market awareness - stays ahead of the curve and translates trends into scalable, future ready solutions.
- Proven digital and product leadership - demonstrated track record of leading large scale digital, product or transformation initiatives from vision through delivery and value realisation.
- Executive influence & leadership - operates confidently at Executive Committee and Board level, building trusted relationships and influencing strategic decisions.
- Strategic thinking & investment planning - strong experience shaping digital and product strategies, translating ambition into prioritised portfolios, investment cases and roadmaps with measurable outcomes.
- Customer & business insight - deep understanding of business operations and user needs, balancing commercial, operational and technical considerations.
- Modern product & delivery expertise - contemporary product management, agile delivery models and emerging digital trends, leveraging data, innovation and technology to improve outcomes.
- Matrix leadership & delivery at scale - effective in complex, matrixed organisations, able to align diverse teams and deliver results through influence.
- Commercial acumen & value focus - strong financial and commercial awareness, experience in business case development, investment governance and benefits realisation, ensuring initiatives deliver tangible, measurable impact.
- Competitive salary: circa £93,000 - £110,000 per annum (based on capability and experience)
