Digital Platforms Developer

Contract: 3-month contract (with potential to extend)
Rate: £150-200/day dependent on experience
Location: Remote (UK-based preferred)
Hours: 1 day per month, with additional days if required
The British Sauna Society is the UK's voice for authentic sauna culture. We're a not-for-profit social enterprise working to raise awareness of the health, social and cultural value of sauna, connect a growing community, and support high-quality sauna development across the UK.
As our membership expands and the support needed to grow a domestic industry increases, we are strengthening our digital systems to ensure they are robust, secure, and scalable.
The role.We are looking for a technically strong, independent developer to maintain and evolve our core digital platforms. This is a hands on development role beginning at approximately one day per month, with flexibility to increase involvement as projects develop.
You will work closely with a small team and will collaborate to keep our digital ecosystem stable, integrated, and fit for growth, as well as developing new functionality to meet the ongoing needs of our members and wider sauna community.
Key responsibilities.WordPress
Maintain and develop our Sauna Map (WordPress)
Manage updates, performance optimisation, and plugins
Improve UX and execute bug fixes and new feature requests
Work with the internal team to plan updates and new functionality
Systems & Integrations
Manage API integrations between:
SheepCRM membership platform
WordPress
Mailchimp
Typeform
Troubleshoot and improve system connections
Community Platforms
Provide support and development for our Discourse forum
Support integration between membership and community systems
Contribute to development of our membership platforms (e.g. events, LMS) as we evolve
Data & Security
Maintain system security and backups
Identify technical risks and resolve vulnerabilities
Ensure documentation of integrations and workflows
Experience. Required.Experience working with APIs and system integrations
Understanding of data security and GDPR principles
Comfortable working independently and solving problems proactively
Clear communicator able to explain technical issues simply
Experience with Discourse
Experience with membership CRMs
Experience working with small organisations or communities
An interest in sauna culture, wellbeing, or community led movements
