Job Description

CONTEXT

Every day 10 million kg of plastics end up in nature. Plastics do not decompose and stay around forever, causing harm to people, animals and the environment. Our vision is to create a world in which rivers are free of plastics. As our Digital Marketing & Communications Manager, you play a crucial role in this journey by amplifying our message, inspiring action, and engaging communities worldwide. You will work closely with the CEO, the Head of Partnerships, country leads, and our creative partners like Momkai to drive awareness, visibility, and support for our mission.


OUR STORY

Founded in 2019, River Cleanup is a Belgian-based nonprofit organization that has activated over 300.000 people in 101 countries and removed 3.7 million kilograms of plastic waste from nature.

Our Clean River Model-based on 3 pillars (Empowering people, Preventing pollution, Accelerating change) and 3 enablers (Assessment, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation)-provides a scalable framework to tackle plastic pollution across the lifecycle of plastic. By 2026, we aim to validate this model in three action zones; by 2030, we will scale to 100 rivers worldwide and 1000 rivers by 2050.


YOUR ROLE

As Digital Marketing & Communication Manager at River Cleanup vzw, you are responsible for the creation, management, and optimization of our digital marketing and communication efforts.


With a direct report to the CEO, your tasks & responsibilities include


Increasing funding & investment relationship

  • Align communication initiatives with the mission and (fundraising) goals of River Cleanup.
  • Support fundraising and donor management with communication materials and content across channels (e.g. Global Annual Report, Partner Impact Report, )


Community & Brand building

  • Co-develop an integrated digital marketing and communication strategy together with external partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external content creators.
  • Create visually attractive and persuasive campaigns that convey our core messages
  • Develop and implement a social media, email & digital marketing strategy (p.e. segment audiences and personalize communication flows in Hubspot, SEO/SEA strategies,
  • Manage and develop content across channels: website, social media, newsletters, blogs.
  • Manage and coach the Social Media Coordinator.
  • Support country leads and local social media coordinators in Indonesia, Belgium, Cameroon, DR Congo, and India.


Campaign & Performance Management

  • Plan and execute fundraising, awareness, and volunteer campaigns.
  • Create and manage social media campaigns to promote p.e. (global) actions, fundraising and awareness raising.
  • Brief, coordinate & manage external performance marketeers, copywriters and content creators.
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance & campaigns on platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok.
  • Use tools like Google Analytics, Tag Manager to gather insights and inform strategies.
  • Report campaign results and key insights to management and stakeholders.


Website management

  • Act as the single point of contact (SPOC) for Sevendays, our external web & IT partner.
  • Serve as SPOC for key partners using our platform, such as RhineCleanUp.
  • Manage day-to-day website content and structure, including updates to pages, news, and events.
  • Flag technical or user experience issues proactively and coordinate timely solutions.
  • Ensure smooth collaboration between internal teams and external developers on all web-related tasks.
  • Take ownership of the website's performance, content, and user journey in line with our communication goals.


WHAT IS REQUIRED TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in digital marketing, communication, or a related field.
  • Strong affinity with nonprofit missions and environmental causes.
  • A strategic mind combined with a hands-on, proactive attitude.
  • Good knowledge of tools like Hubspot, Canva/Adobe, Google Analytics, and social media platforms.
  • Experience with copywriting and/or briefing content creators.
  • Understanding of SEO and website CMS systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Dutch or French, plus strong English skills. Other languages are an asset.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced environment.

DETAILS

  • Tuesday and Thursday are office days in Antwerp. Remote work is possible for the remainder of the week.
  • This position is a full-time position.
