IT Services provide support services for all of the Council's IT infrastructure, networks, hardware and software.
We are looking for an individual with ICT experience and some network knowledge who can hit the ground running to join our small team. We will support you to complete a higher level network apprenticeship.
Reporting to the IT Manager and the Senior PC Network Officer, you will:
- Develop a through working knowledge of a range of cabling and connectivity including various types of wireless systems and IT test equipment
- Assist in monitoring the performance of the network and in planning network capacity and server infrastructure
- With the appropriate support, complete the necessary training/certification to effectively support the council's wired and wireless network.
- Learn to build, prepare and maintain equipment for use under the direction/instruction of others within strict deadlines and areas of responsibility in line with council policies and procedures
- Install PCs, laptops and desktop hardware, with and provide support across the Council for Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems (Windows 10 and Windows 11) and Microsoft Office applications
- Assist in the process of on-boarding officers with laptops and be able to resolve user issues referring to a senior officer where necessary
- With further development be able to apply structured techniques to common and non-routine problems, testing methodologies and troubleshooting, analysing problems by selecting the appropriate digital tools and techniques in line with council guidance
- Develop an understanding of cyber threats and the tools and techniques used to monitor and secure an IT environment
- Develop the necessary skills and behaviours to securely operate across all platforms and areas of responsibility in line with council policies and procedures
- Help to develop and maintain an up-to-date and accurate database of Council hardware and software
- Help with various projects completing research as instructed
Skills and Knowledge required
- Knowledge of technical procedures covering networks with a formal qualification in IT (NVQ L3)
- Demonstrable experience of an understanding of ICT and have some basic network experience
- Have some knowledge of a range of cabling and connectivity issues
- An awareness of:
o Virtual private networks
o Firewalls
o Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 2016,2019 and above)
o Network Printing
o Backup and Recovery concepts
o Virtual Networks
o PowerShell Scripting
